Sage's POVAfter finishing up in the office me and Xan make our way to the car out front. Instead of having Benson drive us there, we decided that it would be best to drive ourselves. I offered to drive because I don't really do it often these days, but Xan being Xan wasn't going for it. His argument was that I have road rage. Like that has to do with anything.
"You still okay with this?" He asks pulling me out of my thoughts. I glance over noticing his set jaw, and sharp eyes. Xan maneuvered the car through the traffic waiting silently for my answer. His arms flexed as he drove looking so damn edible I have to rip my eyes away.
What was the question again?
Oh, the bodyguard thing.
"Yeah." I say giving him a weird look. "I'm fine with it."
A light turns red forcing us to come to a complete stop. Xan immediately turns to me, dragging his eyes all over my face, as if needing some sort of verification that I'm truly okay with this. It's endearing and a major step up from the first time we spoke about the whole bodyguard thing.
Sure, we made up after he tried to force me to get the bodyguards last time, but I was still upset and a little hurt. I've never been good at hiding how Xan makes me feel, so he noticed pretty quickly how I was feeling.
He's been asking me nonstop since I told him it was fine. I'm glad he's valuing my opinion. The fact that he's giving up control involving something like this really says a lot. I mean it's Xan. It's a huge sign of growth to me, and even more a sign of trust.
I assume that he's satisfied by whatever my face gives away, because he relaxes. Thank God. He is always so tense these days, it makes me crazy. Especially seeing that lately that stress has been because of me and my wellbeing. I hate to see him on the edge, yet I'd be a liar if I said that having someone care enough for you, and cater to you isn't an amazing feeling.
"Great. The last thing I want to do is force you into something like this." He explains stealing a quick look at me. I give him a small reassuring smile.
"You aren't forcing me into anything. This is something that I want." I remind and he nods silently. After that we're quiet for awhile, apart from the music that played from the radio. I hum a little to the song, watching the the trees pass.
I feel his large hands fall into my lap, giving my thigh a firm squeeze. After about 15 minutes we finally make it to the Airport.
"Is she already here?" I ask when we pull up.
"She should be. I'm going to call her." I nod watching him dial her number before calling. The phone rings a little before he gets an answer.
"Are you ready?" He asks as soon as she accepts the call. So rude. No hi or anything.
Xan's frowns. "What do you mean?"
Huh?
He listens to whatever Nicole has to say, looking at me then speaking again.
"It's fine that he's here, but if Sage isn't comfortable with him trailing then he wont be able to." Xan's tone is non-negotiable.
"Who?" I mouth. He raises one finger telling me to wait a moment.
"Alright, we're outside. Hurry up, we don't have all day." Xan grumbles before hanging up the phone.
Yeah, like I said. So rude.
"Soo." I drawl waiting patiently for the answer of whoever 'He' is.
"There's been a change of plans. Dante is here with Nicole." Xan explains.
