Sage's POV

"And I just rub this all in your hair?" Xan asks sheepishly from behind me.

"Yes. Make sure you get it on all the strands." I explain feeling him begin to rub the curling cream into my head. Somehow the two of us ended up in the bed, me sitting between his legs as he moisturized my hair. Xan has expressed multiple times the love he had for my hair. Today was wash day, so I gave in to letting him play in it.

It's super cute how careful he's back there being. While he does all the hard stuff, I sit here watching Love Island. I tried to put on some Marvel but Xan kind of banned it in his house saying something about not liking Chris Evans. Typical. He isn't too happy about this show either saying that too many of the men are half naked. I told him to suck it up.

From beside us, I hear my phone go off on the table. Hm, I wonder who's calling? I reach for it recognizing the number being the hospital my mom is staying at. Shit. I answer immediately hoping all is well back home.

"Hello?" I greet nervously. I grip the phone a little tighter than necessary. Xan must notice (I mean of course he did) because he starts peeking around me to see who I'm talking to.

"Who's on the phone?" He questions and I shush him. Nosy ass.

"Hi Sage!" My mother's nurse answers cheerfully. "Do you have a moment to talk?"

"Of course. Is everything alright?" I rush out in a hurry. Her tone seemed cheery enough. I assume everything is fine, but I'm still worried all the same.

"Things are fine. I've actually got some fantastic news! Would you mind flying out so I can disclose them?" She asks me and I release a deep breath. Thank God.

"Yeah, for sure." I ramble. "When do you need me there?"

"As soon as possible." She replies.

"I'll be there tomorrow." I decide before hanging up. I know she said she had good news, but I'm not going to push my luck. Good thing I didn't have anything to do tomorrow. I'm sure the same isn't the same for Xan though. I wonder if he'll still be willing to come with me on such a short notice.

Ever since we got approved for the court date, Xan has been ripping and running all around town. I know that it's been a lot for him, and my baby is tired. I'll be more than understanding if he decides to stay here this time.

"What's going on baby? Where are we going tomorrow?" Xan questions a lot less patiently this time. The man unknowingly warms my heart at the word we. God, who was I kidding? Of course he would still want to come on short notice. I love him so much.

I send him a gentle smile. "That was my mom's nurse." The worry that takes over his features is instant.

"What? Is Ms. Loretta alright?" He asks without missing a beat and I nod.

"Yes, the nurse said she actually has good news. She wants us to fly out so she can discuss it in person." I explain watching understanding form on his face.

He hums in response, before continuing to massage my scalp. "That's great baby. I'll get the transportation in order and I'll let my sister and Dante know." He assures being his usual accommodating self.

"You sure you don't need to stay in town with all the things going on?" I ask knowing Xan would stupidly leave it all behind if it meant coming with me.

"It doesn't matter. I go where you go." His words are stern and they make my heart flutter. Yeah, I am so getting married to this man one day.

I toss him a smile. "Let me guess, we're going to fly private this time?" My words are teasing as I  remember the last snack-less flight we took. It was ridiculous. Because of that whatever chance I had at dragging Xan onto public planes is ruined.
