The Teacher's Assistant
Chapter 3: Tea Without Honey
"Listen Mr., uh, Tyler I really don't think I need any help in language. So if you'd like you could just leave. I won't tell anyone as long as you don't tell anyone." I try to negotiate as Tyler walks into the kitchen and bends over to set down his backpack down next to the barstools at the center island. He stops midair so that his bag was a few inches from the ground.
"Really?" He asks looking up at me. I nod my head. "Of course. All you have to do is tell Mr. Kirkland we're doing are sessions even if we aren't. It shouldn't really matter." I wave my hand nonchalantly.
"You are so right. You know what? How about I just leave right now." He suggests. My eyes widened in surprise. Is he serious? Is he really giving up this easily? He stands erect and slides his backpack back on his shoulder. He locks eyes with me.
"Really?" I ask disbelievingly. I watch as he starts towards the door.
"Yeah. I really don't think you need my help. To tell you the truth, I read your paper and I thought it was perfect." He says stopping with his hand on the doorknob.
"Really?" Was all I could think to say. Maybe, I'm not as smart as I think I am.
"Really." He repeats. He swings open the door and steps out of the house. "You might want to lock the door behind me; you wouldn't want any assassins to come and kill you." I hear him chuckle as he closes the door behind him.
I stood still for a moment. I wouldn't want assassins to come and kill me? What the hell was that supposed to mean? Man, this guy has a weird sense of humor. I sigh as I walk over to the door to lock it just as somebody rings the doorbell. I open it and peek my head out.
Another sigh escapes my lips. "What are you doing here?" I ask.
"I came to tutor you. Why else would I be here? I mean your house is nice and all but it's really not my taste." Tyler says as he rocks back on his heel and checks out the front of the house. I open the door a little wider and lean on the door frame. I cross my arms under my breasts.
"Yeah, that's great and all but I thought you said we didn't have to study today." I point out.
"You said it first."
"Yeah. And you agreed."
"Yeah, and I also lied. Now if you'd please excuse me I think it's about time we actually start working." He says as he tries to walk past me into the house. Keeping my hands crossed I lift my right leg and came in contact to the other side of the door with my foot, stopping him just in time from coming into my house.
"I don't think so." I say. He sighs and throws me an exasperated look as he backs away from my leg-blocked doorway.
"And why not?" he asks throwing his hands in the air and I couldn't help but notice how the fitted, black Underarmour t-shirt he's wearing rides up and the bottom of his well-toned, beige colored abs show. As my eyes unwillingly travel up I notice how his muscular biceps and triceps were flexing. I quickly avert my eyes and bring my fist up to my mouth and clear my throat. How does an English T.A. get a body like that? I mean there's only so much a few days a week at the gym can do.
I glance up at Tyler's face and he gives me a confused look as he lowers his arms and I realized he was waiting for an answer.
"Because... because we had an agreement." I say re-crossing my arms and holding my head up in defiance.
"Yeah well the agreements off." He says crossing his arms mockingly.
"And what makes you think I will let you into my house?" I ask looking him in the eye. He stands there and looks at me silently for a while. Then out of the blue he walks forward and attempts to walk over my leg. But just as he's about to left a leg over mine I reach over and stop him with my arm.
