Everything seemed to fade for a moment, then...
Alejandra's eyes fluttered open. Confusion flooded her mind as she realized she was lying on a bed. She slowly sat up, trying to make sense of her surroundings.
As she scanned the space, her gaze landed on another person seated in a bed across from her, seemingly oblivious to her presence.
The memories began to resurface. Right, she...died and then the strange woman who pretty much gave her no choice to save her doomed universe with these newfound powers she wasn't even sure if she remembered how to use, had brought her to the MCU, apparently.
But where was she now?
"Hey, sleeping beauty."
Alejandra's attention was brought back to the girl. This time, she studied the young girl's appearance, and her eyes widened slightly.
Why did she kind of look like...
No.
She refused to think about the life she had lost this moment. Succumbing to such thoughts would only lead to a breakdown, and that would be alarming. But still, the resemblance was uncanny.
Did the woman do this to mess with her or something?
"Hey, are you okay?" The girls voice broke her thoughts.
Alejandra blinked, refocusing on the girl who was now standing in front of her, waving a hand in front of her face.
"Who are you?" Alejandra asked instead, inwardly cursing at the shakiness of her voice.
The girl lowered her hand and smiled. "I'm Lily!"
Of course.
"Hey."
The girl giggled and plopped down right next to her. "And what's your name, mystery girl?"
"Oh. Um...Alejandra."
Lily raised an amused eyebrow. "You don't look so sure."
Alejandra couldn't help but roll her eyes. "I'm sure. I'm just-well, confused."
"Oh!" Lily clapped her hands together. "Mrs. Miller and Miss Rose found you outside the orphanage dead asleep and brought you inside. All of us were staring wondering who this girl was but then they yelled at us to go back to our rooms. I was the only one with no roommate, so they put you in here with me!"
Did she say orphanage?
"Really?" Alejandra's tone conveyed both confusion and annoyance towards the woman who had brought here in such a manner. Although, maybe there was no other alternative, considering she might not really exist here. Or did she? Time wasn't on her side; she had awakened before she could finish asking the woman questions during their training.
Either way, she supposed she had to be grateful she wasn't homeless.
The girl's eyes narrowed. "You don't remember coming here?"
"Um-
"Are you, like, a runaway or something?" Lily interrupted.
"No!" Alejandra quickly interjected but then composed herself. "No, I just...it's complicated."
"Right. Sorry, I'll stop being nosy." The girl glanced around in embarrassment.
For the first time in a while, Alejandra smiled. "It's fine. We got something in common I guess."
Lily sighed in relief. "Good! Because that has always been my problem too. Also, I kind of talk a lot, so, yeah! Also-
Alejandra wasn't really paying attention to the girls rambling. She felt bad, but, there was a pressing matter at hand, and she didn't know where to begin.
