It's been a week since that incident and Alejandra was struggling on what to do. She wasn't sure if she was ready to broach the topic of the Avengers with Bucky.
Their relationship was a lot better and she didn't want to mess it up. But there wasn't a whole lot of time left before the Avengers would be in search of the scepter she remembered as she quickly wrote that down during her stay at the orphanage.
Alejandra walked out of the room and noticed Bucky was still sleeping. She quietly made her way over, even though he might still be able to hear her, and poked at his face until he stirred awake, grumbling.
Bucky blinked sleepily, his brow furrowing in annoyance. "What do you want?" He grumbled, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
She paid his grumpiness no mind and crossed her arms. "I'm hungry. Make me something."
Bucky sighed, sitting up as he narrowed his eyes at the girl. "You don't know how to cook?"
Alejandra shrugged, she knew the basics, but her parents always cooked for her and the orphanage provided food already made. "I know the basics, but I've never really had to cook for myself." She confessed with a sheepish smile. "But I can try."
Bucky rolled his eyes fondly, the annoyance fading from his expression. "Alright, fine. Come on, I'm gonna teach you."
He led Alejandra to the kitchen, even though it was like three feet away, and started rummaging through the cabinets. Thankfully, the jobs he had been taking paid him well where they could have decent meals now.
Bucky showed her how to crack eggs, whisk batter, and flip pancakes with finesse. Despite a few mishaps along the way-like accidentally dropping an eggshell into the batter-the girl remained undeterred, her enthusiasm never wavering.
Alejandra beamed as she took her first bite, it was pretty good. As they sat down to eat their meal together, she couldn't help but feel grateful for Bucky's patience, and unwavering support.
Which is why she paused. She was getting way too comfortable with the man. She was even depending on him. Alejandra came to this world knowing she had to save it, but she didn't think she would have the time to get close to it-or anyone. But she was seeing Bucky like some sort of father figure now and she didn't know how to feel about that.
Alejandra had amazing parents but they seemed to be gone in this world and it stung. But she knew it wasn't the real them. Her real parents were somewhere far away and alive...but Alejandra herself, wasn't (in that world at least).
And Bucky wouldn't replace them, but he offered a sense of comfort and security she hasn't felt ever since she got here (even though it took a few days)
Alejandra was to live in this world for the rest of her days, but could she allow herself to feel truly at home with people she now cared for, when she didn't in the first place?
She didn't really think so. Not with knowing the things that she does. It didn't feel right.
"Alejandra?"
The girl snapped out her thoughts and looked up meeting Bucky's concerned eyes. She wished he'd go back to being annoyed with her, but she knew trust was crucial for her mission. Still,
she didn't think their relationship would ever get like this as she wasn't the most likable person. She looked away, but smiled, albeit weakly. "What's up?"
"Just making sure you're alright." Bucky said gently. "You seem lost in thought. What happened?"
Alejandra shook her head, picking at her food again. "Nothing."
Bucky didn't believe it. But what could he do? Pry? He wouldn't like that if someone did that to him. Although, the kid was probably the only one he would think he wouldn't feel too annoyed if she asked a bunch of questions.
