Chapter 10:

I woke up at 2 AM to my iPhone ringing shrilly.  When I answered it, I heard cars beeping and engines running.  Welcome to the city.

"Hello?"

"JESS? WHY DID YOU NOT CALL ME?! I have been calling you for the past 20 minutes!!!!"  Shoot!  Min Su!

"Sorry, I got really busy."

"Well, did you get home okay?"

"Yeah, but you won’t believe what I did at school." I muttered darkly.

"Oh God, what'd you do?" she said with a sigh, as though she hadn’t expected anything less from me.

" I fell down the stairs."

"Oh my God Jess! Are you ok?!”

"Yeah, I’m fine, I just have a bruise on my face and arm."

"Oooh ouch, sorry ‘bout that," said Min Su, failing to conceal her giggle.

"It's fine,” I lied, yawning.  “Well, I’d better get back to sleep since SOMEONE woke me up.  You driving me tomorrow?"

"Of course!" said Min Su.

"Ok! See ya!"

Geez, Jess, she’s your best friend and you can't even tell her... It's not like I wanted to lie to her.  But, knowing Min Su, she would have made a HUGE deal out of it.

The next morning:

“BEEP BEEP! BEEP BEEP!  BEEP BE-”

I swear, I'm going to shoot my alarm clock!  It gives me a heart attack every time!  Well, what to wear, what to wear...

I finally picked a white half sleeve leopard t-shirt that sits on the sides of your shoulders with dark denim skinny jeans and black lace high heels

Curling my hair takes centuries, I swear, and so does covering up bruises the size of Kansas. As I ran down the stairs, I snatched my messenger bag to meet my mom in the kitchen.

"Good Morning, Umma [Mom]!"

"Good morning, Jess, sleep well?  Do you feel alright?  Lets skip school today, ok?" she asked in the same breath, looking concerned.

"Haha! Yes, yes, and absolutely not!" I confirmed.  In America, I couldn’t care less about school, but Korean school is a blast!  Well, at least, to me it did!

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely positive!"

"Ok..." She said as I unlocked my bag’s latch to look at my timetable.  Let's see, History, Chemistry (greaaat, my favorite). Let's see what else....oh geez, gym!  I ran back upstairs and grabbed some gym shorts, a tank top, tennis shoes, and a jacket. I also grabbed an extra pair of clothes for after gym. Oh! Makeup! Need makeup.

All of a sudden a car honked, almost making me jump. Ahhh! Min Su... I threw all my stuff in a duffel bag and ran downstairs (At least, as well as you can in high heels) "Bye mom!!" "Bye sweetie be careful!!" Ok Mom, thanks, I'm just gonna go jump off a cliff now. Haha!

"Jess!  Hey!"

"Hey, Min Su!" I said, getting into the white corvette.

"Wow! You covered up that black eye really well!" she said, impressed.  "Which eye was it?"

"This one" I said pointing to my right eye, as Min Su came closer to see how good of a job I did on my cover-up skills.  Hopefully she wouldn't be able to see the wounds I received after school yesterday.

"Wow! I can't even tell!"

"Thanks! Now come on! Drive or we're gonna be late!"

Walking to my locker, I started wondering about what other disasters may happen today.  A bomb exploding next to me; someone smearing cake down my clothes then pouring milk over me, saying I'm a Tres Leche cake (that's an irrational fear of mine); it starts raining and then have to walk home without an umbrella. I finally found my locker and put my spare clothes in and took my history book out.  I closed my locker, and a face suddenly materialized to my right! Still skittish from yesterday, I jumped.

"Hey, babe." Guess who.

"What do you think you're doing scaring me like that?" I gasped, heart still pounding.

"Sorry, babe. I didn't know you would be so touchy,  but I can calm you down," he said suggestively, closing the distance between us.  I turned away, knowing exactly what he was doing.

"You're a real perv, you know?"

"Ooh! Harsh words!" he said in mock hurt.

"Yeah? Well it can get worse!" I warned him, and with that I walked away.

"See ya later, babe!" he yelled.  I imagined him with that dirty little smirk on his face. OOOH, HE MAKES ME SO MAD!!

I walked into the class, looking for an open seat, when Tae raised his hand and waved at me to come sit next to him and Min Su.

"Hey, Jess!" he said as I walked to my new seat.

"Hey, guys! How's it goin'?"

"Good!  Man, Jess!  I can't even tell that you got a black eye! What did you do?!" said Tae with such a cute inquisitive look that I had to laugh.

"It's called the magic of makeup."

"Ohh! Did you do your shoulder too?" He started to reach for my shoulder when I leaned back.

"Yeah, I did!  Hey!  Wanna have lunch together again today?" I asked, quickly changing the subject.

"Sure! Sounds great!" Min Su said,  then reached into her purse to grab her compact mirror.

"Min Su.."

"What, Tae?" she said, looking into her mirror.

"Don't you know you look perfect? Stop fussing around!" he said, taking a lock of her hair.

Smiling, Min Su replied, "Thanks!" then put her mirror back into her purse.

I KNEW IT!!! HE DOES LIKE HER!!! WOOHOO!!!

"Uh, Jess... why are you smiling?" said Tae with a puzzled look on his face.

"Huh? OH!  Nothing Tae, just a joke I heard."

Thankfully, the teacher came in and started the class before Tae got to ask any questions. Thank you GOD!!  Now Jess, don't make a big deal out of this.  Just find Brie, the good for nothing pervert. OK JESS!  Stay FOCUSED.  Just, find him and have him help you with a way to get Min Su and Tae together.  Nothing more, nothing less...

Will the gang find out? Or will Jess be able to hide it? We Shall SEE! *evil laugh*
