IT WAS strange to see someone in the backseat through the rear view mirror of Shauna's car. Jackie was used to seeing nothing but the lonesome bag of Shauna's that she insisted on putting behind there, in account of her not wanting it to be on Jackie's lap, and occasionally the sight of her best friends leather bound journal sat on the chairs.

But now, the weird feeling of seeing Delilah resting her head on the edge of the door, eyes fluttering as if they were the heaviest thing on earth, and her hair flying about almost gracefully from the gusts of wind coming through the cracked open window, overcame Jackie like a sickness. Shauna had sat down and immediately pushed the button beside her that drew it down a notch.

It was almost as if she had a process, like Shauna knew Delilah hated the window next to her closed, as if Shauna knew Delilah better than anyone else. It made Jackie's insides twist. What did Shauna know about Delilah? She didn't, that was the answer. It was only a lucky guess of hers that the window was preferable slightly opened.

She was overthinking, it was just annoying that Jackie couldn't speak about the things they usually did with Delilah in the backseat, even though the blonde girl probably wouldn't even bother to listen in to their conversation anyways. What would she care if Jackie was once again trying to get Shauna to go to the upcoming prom with Randy Walsh? What did she care that Jackie wanted to talk about Rutgers and their future plans for collage. Not like Delilah was coming along with them.

Not like she was expecting to be spoken to either, by the way she immediately tuned into the sounds of the serenading quiet voice of Liz Phair coming out of Shauna's shitty radio.

They had dropped Jeff off a few minutes ago, he was too drunk and out of it to speak clearly sentences to his backseat mate, Delilah didn't want to either since she clearly tried to push herself away from the stuttering and slurring boy beside her. He fell into the back of Jackie's seat at one point after Shauna rode over a pothole, he hit his head against the plastic part behind the headrest, and it didn't take long for Jackie to protest and start spewing out annoyed quips at how Jeff was uncontrollable when he was tipsy. Delilah so badly wanted to intervene and state that he was more than tipsy.

Shauna's hands were gripping the wheel tightly whilst the argument was going on, accidentally going over another pothole just as she was turning into the driveway to Jeff's oversized mansion of a house. He was halfway through opening the door when she pulled up, a stupid drunk decision, which ended up with him sprawled over the grass after the jolt of the sudden impact of the hole, and Jackie immediately jumping out of the car to hoist him up, grumbling all the way as Jeff leaned what looked to be his whole body weight towards the door to his house.
