THE FIRST time that Delilah had slipped up, was letting Shauna meet her parents. Or well, not letting her per say. The two adults were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, in their own house, when Delilah and Shauna had stumbled through the door. They had been out, another one of Shauna's calls to Delilah's phone in her bedroom, saying not much except; 'Jackie's just left'. Delilah had learnt the language of Shauna pretty quickly, easily as on the surface Shauna was quite monochrome, so she understood what this meant immediately. Jackie was supposed to hanging out with her, but Shauna had suddenly gotten very tired and ill, and then called Delilah.
So Delilah did what she had to do, wait until Shauna's shitty Ford pulled up to her driveway. Then, Delilah hopped in, sat in silence until Shauna had decided she didn't wanna drive around aimlessly anymore, and then fall right back into routine by climbing on her lap, then eventually ending up in the backseat in a flurry of limbs and flying clothes.
By the time the two had gotten back, it was a little bit later than when they had left, dinner time probably. Delilah, still on a high, insisted that Shauna stayed and she made her something to eat. Shauna, a bit sceptical about it Delilah's sudden change of heart in their arrangement, had hesitated, but then immediately walked in, right after Delilah had grinned and told her what was behind the offer.
Almost practically falling through the door, Delilah was dragging Shauna behind her with her hand around the girl's wrist, and Shauna's face a little dazed at what she had just been promised. They were so focused on each other that they didn't notice the two figures sat at the dinner table before them. Until one spoke.
"Dee? Who's this?"
Delilah snapped around, her eyes wide. Her mother and father both raised a brow at her and the lost looking bundle of flannel behind her. Certainly not the usual type Delilah hung around. "Daddy." She stuttered out, taking a while to swallow the lump in her throat.
Her father stood. "Are you going to introduce us to your friend?" He asked, smiling politely and tight lipped at Shauna, who seemed to have snapped out of whatever thought train she had hopped on, and looked right up at the man. He was tall, not too large but considerably noticeable that he was in shape. His greying hair made him seem like someone had shook salt and pepper all over his head, and his sharp jawline and weirdly clean stubble, made Shauna feel like she should be kneeling down before him.
It didn't help that the hand extended to her wasn't noticed until someone cleared their throat. A chair was pulled out and a woman now stood beside Delilah's father, or 'Daddy' as she had called him. Shauna would've laughed and teased if she had not been so caught up in the new presence of this goddess like person.
