When he held her hand on his chest, she was overwhelmed; tears rolled down her eyes. He was her light, the one that had got her out of the murky waters through the darkest nights. She had to brace herself from falling to her knees. It was difficult for her to avoid him.
She thought if she would be indifferent to him, he would not pursue her, but he didn't stop. Why did he come here? Why was it so difficult for her to stay away from him?
But the truth cannot be effaced she thought. The one truth that Rajveer had reminded her of. She couldn't deny who she was and where she was from. A reminder that Adhiveer was a king and she was a nobody from the streets, a tribal from the forest. He was a protector, and she was a killer, and this line drawn between them was indelible. She knew that one day he would see the truth and realise who she was. And then he won't treat her the way he treated her now.
When he asked her for the promise, she honestly told him that she would never leave his side. That she would always be there with him like a shadow. If he ever decides to take a queen, someone with the same status as him, she would undeniably protect both of them. Because she owed her life to him. That was the promise she gave him.
The preparations to go to Satjaya had started. A large caravan was gathered and the cheer and excitement among the people who were leaving was contagious. Sidhraj had decided to stay back and look after the court and the palace.
Shiva decided to stay back as well, but the king denied it, stating that she had no right to torture him again like this.
"You are the king's guard, so wherever I go you are coming with me." He said.I
t was a four-day journey to Satjaya. A long and slow road to the highlands in the east. They had to cross multiple forests. This time Shiva was given a horse. It was a dark brown colour stallion and she had named it Mehula. Because the sound that its feet made sounded like that of falling rain. It was fast but was not as fast as Indra.
She could see that Rajveer hated her presence there with them but she was thankful to him for keeping the king busy. Every time he saw him with her, he would make an excuse and would take the king along with him, away from her.
The palace of the Satjaya kingdom was on top of a large hill. A single long winding road was the only way to reach it. When they reached the top the view of the city below was mesmerising. Shiva felt as if she was on clouds. She had been to the city of Satjaya but had never seen the palace up close. It was larger than that of Merujaya. And it was beautiful. They were welcomed with a great pomp.
The entire palace was decorated with flowers, right from the entrance gate to the central hall. There were no gardens here like in Merujaya, but there were many streams that surrounded the palace, making it look like it was floating in a large river. Everybody in the palace was busy doing something. The wedding was in a week and the energy in the palace was overwhelming.
