Remote, Bottle, and I walked through the center plaza with guilt etched across our faces. We knew that we outran the police and got away, meaning we were technically illegal being on the streets, as we were now considered runaways.
Despite my discomfort, I noticed Bottle had the worst look on her face once I brought it up among the three of us. She obviously knew something we didn't. Not wanting to have things spiral out of control, I decided not to ask about it. However, Remote did the job for me.
"Bottle, are you okay? You look distraught," Remote asked Bottle with a worried expression and a hand on her hip.
"I-it's nothing. Don't worry about me. I'm okay," Bottle fake-laughed.
"Yeah right, you know something we don't," I raised an eyebrow. "C'mon, you can trust us. We're your friends."
"Now's not a good time to tell you. I'll tell you later," Bottle nodded.
We continued walking until we met up with the others at Oxy Square. We first got there and our spirits were lifted as we saw Lightning's snazzy little outfit.
Lightning looked more stylish than the finest models I knew. He sported a small suit and tie along with a pair of tinted sunglasses. To add to the funny factor, he still had his travel bag on his back with the fancy attire.
"Lightning, what are you wearing?" Bottle asked on the verge of laughter.
"I had to disguise myself to hide from the cops somehow," Lightning shrugged.
"Well that's a damn good disguise," I laughed.
"Right? He looks like one of those NPCs in city life video games," Remote giggled.
"Why does everybody have to comment on my disguise?" Lightning rolled his eyes deadpan.
"Cause you look like a damn fool, that's why," Pen pointed with his thumb.
"Shut up."
"Anyway, now that we're all back together, we can continue on the journey," Bottle said.
"I agree. Let me pull the map out real quick," Lightning reached into his backpack and pulled the map out.
"Here, it says to travel through Oxy and take a train over to the next city over, Saterville.
"If that's what the map's saying, then that's probably right," I shrugged.
The six of us started walking through Oxy for the first time in a while without getting chased by officers. We got to take in the views of the shops and the area around us.
Oxy was a rather rural town, but because it was located next to Saterville, a major city in the area, it had some components that made it popular and a satisfactory tourist destination for anybody visiting the area. Every corner you turned, there was at least one restaurant. The area was also rather diverse despite being located in the empty countryside. There were different cultures all around and we got to witness all of these cultures in one small, compact area of the city.
I glanced over to my left to see a street food stand with a sign indicating that it sold freshly made donuts.
"Remote, you gotta see this," I grabbed Remote by the wrist and pulled her over to see what I was seeing.
"My god, those look tasty," Remote's mouth started to water.
"Right? Anyway, I got an idea."
"What is it?"
If you take Pen's hat and throw it into that garbage can over there, I'll pay for the donuts. If you don't, you don't get any," I smirked.
"That's so mean! Pen really loves his hats," Remote laughed.
