Chapter 7: The Jealousy-Filled Wedding
An uneventful month had flown briskly by—tree leaves went from full to partly barren, from healthy green hues to brittle golden tones. People walking down the streets had started wearing heavy trench coats and knitted sweaters, compared to the light and loose clothing they wore during Summer.
They had entered the month of September.
Sebastian, being unemployed, visited the Sallows as often as he could—which is to say—daily. Gradually, he had managed to patch things up with his sister. It was as though the incident regarding their Uncle Solomon had never occurred.
As for his relationship with Lucy, albeit agreed to be friends once again, the two walked in eggshells to prevent themselves from overstepping their boundaries—interacting and communicating only when necessary.
Their days went by in a single pattern—the married couple leaving for work, Sebastian visiting to look after Elizabeth, and Lucy tending to her coffee shop.
However, today was a busy day for them. They were getting ready to attend a nuptial of their old friends from Hogwarts.
"Are you sure it looks okay on me, Anne?" the blonde witch inquired as she examined herself in the mirror, moving from side to side, from front to back.
She was donned in a spaghetti-strapped, lavender, satin long dress that hugged her curves, and a long, white gloves that went past her elbows. One would not notice that her dress was borrowed as the size seemed custom-fit for her.
"Of course, you look stunning," Anne commented. The brunette wore the same white gloves. She, on the other hand, was wearing a flowy, apple green, long dress with a halter neckline.
She ushered Lucy to sit in front of her vanity table so she could do her hair. The latter complied without dispute and sent Anne a smile through the mirror.
"It's been a while since I dolled up. I did not even dress up during your wedding," she chuckled at the memory.
Anne and Ominis' wedding, though they could afford a lavish one, was no more than an official exchange of vows in front of a Priest and their few guests as witnesses. They had to be wedded quickly and subtly before the Gaunts could be made aware of it and interfere.
"But today, you must be twice as dazzling. We might meet your future husband there," Anne teased. "There you go. All done. Is it to your liking?"
The brunette had styled her hair in a braided half updo with strands falling at the side of her cheeks.
"I love it, Anne. Thank you."
"You are most welcome. Now, if you'll excuse me. I must tend to Eli now. We'll meet you downstairs, all right?"
Lucy nodded in response.
She took once last inspection of her appearance before she decided to leave the door. Upon walking out, she was greeted by Sebastian, standing outside her bedroom door while fixing his cufflinks.
She inhaled sharply.
Sebastian was devilishly handsome in a long-sleeved, button-down, black shirt. She wanted to curse at him for leaving the first two buttons undone. He did not even bother to fix his unruly hair, yet it seemed to compliment his attire. He was looking too sexy for her liking. She badly wanted to let her fingers get lost in his hair as she smothers him in kisses.
