Chapter 8: Potential Lover
"He... what?!" Imelda asked in a bawling manner.
The café, like almost every day, was empty except for the two ladies occupying one of the coffee tables inside S&B's Café—nearest to the crackling fireplace as they yearned for extra warmth. Lucy had been getting one or two customers at a time, all of whom did not bother staying after receiving their to-go cups. She was fine with that, however, as she needed Imelda's company more than the few galleons. Needing an outlet before things get out of hand, she owled Imelda this morning to apologize and asked her to come visit, which the Latina was more than happy to abide.
Imelda carried herself as fashionably possible as she always does despite visiting right after a hectic Quidditch practice— while Lucy was donned in her usual plain uniform. After last night's events, distraught painted Lucy's face. Her undereyes were darkened due to lack of sleep and her hair was tied in a messy, lazy bun—as she could not be bothered to worry about her appearance.
Frantically, Lucy shot a quick glance towards the stairs leading to the second floor and back to Imelda, placing her index finger across her lips to hush her.
"Quiet down, Imelda! Anne might hear you, she's on her time-off from work."
Imelda grinned cockily, crossing her arms. Her face went from disbelief to delight in a matter of seconds, confusing the blonde.
"Well, I suppose I can forgive you for leaving last night without a hello nor a goodbye. You have won me 100 galleons. Wait until Garreth hears about this."
"You made a bet with Garreth? ...About me and Sebastian?" Lucy snarled; a brow raised.
Imelda could not seem to hide her merriment over the matter. She lifted her cup of coffee and took a sip while wiggling her eyebrows. "A bet on who will make a move first. And you... did not disappoint me," she finished with a teasing cackle.
The blonde slumped to her seat and huffed. She crossed her arms against her chest and gave a warning look at her snickering friend.
Imelda remained unfazed, however—her smirk submerged under the mildly hot coffee.
"You are unbelievable. What's up with you and Garreth anyway?"
Imelda chocked on her coffee. She composed herself and brought her cup back down, leaning away from the table.
Imelda let her eyes wander around with a giddy smile on her face, and for a moment, Lucy had forgotten her uneasiness. This was the first time she had seen Imelda in love—with a man, at least. She used to only give this face when she babbled about Quidditch or her broom records.
'At least one of us is happy,' she thought.
"We've been dating for a while, actually. We play in the same Quidditch league, so... got to know each other better after growing out of our juvenile selves, and before we knew it, we're in love."
Lucy found herself drawn by Imelda's infectious smile. This was certainly the breather she needed.
She nodded twice, slowly, with her mouth agape, "Oh, so that's why he knew about this place. Your boyfriend's the one who led Sebastian here. Traitor," she mouthed the last word and they both shared a giggle.
