Lachlan's POV
As the bell rung loudly through the room, Mitch seemed to drag me out of my seat and to the crowded hallways. I knew he did this to get away from his fellow mates, and I honestly was proud of him for leaving them like he had. They were no good anyways.
Suddenly, we seemed to have collided with someone, and down we went tumbling to the ground while laughing hysterically. Finding that the person of collision was Brandon, we shared needed joy before standing up and helping one another up.
I leaned backwards against the blue lockers and sighed lightly, looking at Mitch in still astonishment that he had left like he did just so that he could be my friend.
Brandon, however, tugged at the sleeve of my hoodie frantically, and I looked down at him with curiosity. Mitch was slightly shorter than me as he leaned on the lockers beside me, but I didn't fail to miss the troubled cloud of terror filling Brandon's orbs.
The boy that still tugged hectically on my sleeve was now motioning down the hallway to the group of boys shoving through students towards us, and I knew it was for no good. My eyes widened, and the pound of my heart was erratic. I couldn't quite control my breathing as I exchanged scared, worried looks with the Canadian beside me as they only grew closer.
"Let me do the talking, alright? I'll see what they want," Mitch mumbled as he leaned up as I did, and we faced them with Brandon and I behind the Canadian.
They stopped once they stood a few steps away, their eyes sending molten lava to rain down on us.
I swallowed thickly as I looked them over closely, and I was quick to see pleading eyes that belonged to Rob and Preston. Both seemed scared, and they lingered behind the other two, who were fuming and clenching their fists at their sides.
Jerome had a hateful frown on his face, his appearance making me shiver as it appeared he wanted me dead right then. Vikk's eyes were blank from emotions, and I knew then that he blocked them off. Beyond those dull orbs was a boy who was just as afraid as we, but I knew he'd never admit to it.
"Hello, dudes. What do you need?" Mitch's tone was fake, but it was hard to notice. Vikk was quick to sneer and grow unbelievably cold, "What the fuck do you think you are doing hanging out with them? Are you a traitor?"
Vikk's voice was faulty, but it seemed only I had noticed.
"You know what? I'm sick of bullying innocent people who have done absolutely nothing to deserve what you do to them! Cruelty is never an answer, and I would rather have a friend than many fake friends that think hurting others is fun," Mitch snarled, jaw clenched tightly as he stared Vikk straight to the face.
I was astonished and shocked all at once as I stared at the back of his head, and Mitch glanced back at us to give a unsteady smile. Mitch was standing up for not only us, but for himself, and I was so proud of him.
However, Jerome was quick to show he was having none of it, and he started lunging forward, but I shoved Mitch back and nearly caused the raging boy to crash into me. He was shorter than I or Mitch, but someone's height could fool anyone.
I was grabbed by the shirt before I could react, and Jerome was growling in my face.
"You're the one who made him leave!" He seemed to yell, but I was more confused than anything. "I believe you're mistaken, mate." He seemed to grow angrier, "I'm not your mate, bitch!"
A sudden throb in my cheek had me holding it desperately to ease the sting, and I was breathing too hard to be stable. He had slapped me, and I had never been so cruelly struck by someone. It was incredibly uncalled for.
I spared a hazardous look at Mitch, and I instantly saw that both he and Brandon were stunned by Jerome's action as much as I was. I whipped back around and grabbed Jerome by the biceps and lifted him off of his feet effortlessly. He thrashed about, but I didn't dare loosen my grip.
I wouldn't fight him.
I calmly - effortlessly - walked over to Vikk and placed the boy down. The remaining three were quick to restrain him, and I smiled bittersweet, "Please, control your friend. Thank you!"
I could clearly see the shock on Vikk's flawless features, but like I believed, violence was never a source of answer. It only caused more of a problem and more fighting.
I turned around and immediately walked away, having the two boys follow right behind me. "I can't believe how calm you were! That was insane," Brandon admitted with wide eyes, and I just chuckled.
When I had felt we were far enough away from the group, I leaned against another set of lockers and stared at my two friends, "I just see no point in fighting, is all. I don't fight unless provoked, and even then I go easy." I offered a smile, but it was wiped away the moment I noticed someone approaching.
Turning fully, I recognized the man was Rob, and he had a shy look to his face as his head hung in shame.
"I would have left with Mitch, but I was scared," he admitted sheepishly, and I smiled lightly as I placed a hand on his shoulder," You're welcome to be our friend."
I watched him brighten up then, and he nodded his head excitedly as I looked back down the hallway to where the remaining three were left. Vikk and Jerome had hard glares on their faces with their arms crossed, but Preston seemed to lack the seriousness of the situation. He seemed trapped, and I knew he'd be around soon as well.
