"From yuh see di face, yuh know the voice..." I begin to say, grabbing ahold of the microphone stand.
"I go by the name of D'yani, and it's a pleasure to be here with you today"
This was my second performance for the day, I don't often do back-to-back shows but I've been trying to keep as busy as possible since the other day.
Earlier this morning I had a small showcase on the Smile Jamaica morning segment.
It was my fourth time being on the show, and the vibes were always right.
The team has seen me grow as an artist over the years, developing my stage presence to expanding my discography and catalog.
Always happy to work with their network.
"I wrote this song a couple of years back now...it was dedicated to my then girlfriend at the time" I speak into the mic.
Loverboy at heart.
Looking out into the crowd of the packed outdoor arena, a sense of gratitude washes over me as I silently thank God for continuing to bless me with opportunities like this once.
"When the song dropped, I didn't know it would have the impact that it did...then when Jada hopped on as a feature that took the song to another level"
Di song skyrocketed my career and got me into some rooms that I never would've expected.
Gratitude is a must.
"It's a crowd favorite, and one of my personal favorites as well, and it goes a lil sumn like this"
The DJ moves in synch with me, and the backtrack for "Feelings" flows out towards the audience as I harmonize a few notes into the mic, prepping for the first verse.
In no time, I allow the music to take me away, locking me into this lyrical trance for the rest of the performance.
I was in my element, doing what I loved.
Ain't nothing like this.

Parenting your parents is never fun.
As you both get older, the roles often reverse, where your frontal lobe development causes you to be the more mature one, and their old age forces their maturity to move backward.
Undoing all the years of conditioning, and socialization that got you all here in the first place.
I was my parents' parent.
