Mama hurriedly calls out direct instructions to her farm helpers.
Her hands are situated above her hip, as she watches them keenly from the kitchen door.
Nobody better set off chippy head today.
My eyes immediately look out the window towards the sky, taking note of the hot sun beating down from above, not one raincloud in sight.
My seat at the breakfast table allows me to have a clear view of everything happening outside.
Weh she a talk bout?
"Sun a shine, it nah rain today Mama"
"Yuh nuh smell di rain bwoy?"
Old people funny certain way enuh.
"Plus me knee dem a hot me, di rain soon start man just watch and see" she tells me, pointing her infamous wooden spoon in my direction.
Dah spoon deh cook many a pot.
"Yuh tun city bwoy now pon me Andre, yuh lose yuh country instincts me grandson" she chuckles, making her way back to the pots she had set on the fire.
My grandmother has always had an eight-burner stove.
Di lady can cook.
She's made it her life goal to have something going at all hours of the day, serving food to any and everybody who walked through her front door.
"All when me deh inna di city, a country living me an itch fi come back to" I tell her honestly.
City life wasn't for me, but it was where the epicenter of the entertainment industry was, so I had to make do with that reality.
Music money nuh deh a Mandeville.
But when me start build me family wid me wife, a right dung yasso we a come fi set up shop.
Get two cow, couple chicken, and a piece a land.
Even though I was born in Spanish Town, I spent a lot of time in Manchester as a kid, I loved it here so my mother never object to me coming down during my holidays and breaks.
