There's nothing more disappointing than having the people who are extensions of you embarrass you.
To see them act out of character, to see them portray themselves as people who you've never even met.
It was heartbreaking.
My mother, cousins, and Makaia had acted so far out of character today that I didn't even know who to blame.
The offenses were just too much.
"But afta we neva seh nothing bad to her Dre," Makaia insisted when I they confronted them.
"All we did a do was talk, and then before we knew it a she dat a run weh and a bawl" my mother backed her.
Their story never changed.
They spoke about the situation as if they were confused like they weren't even there to witness it.
My cousins especially, both of them subscribing to this off-putting neutrality.
Responding in a series of hums and shrugs.
Like me eediat...
Me have fool written cross me forehead?
I couldn't bear listening to them retell the loosely constructed tale, I had known them too long to know when they were lying.
All four a dem a liad.
My mother was to spend the night at my house, in hopes of her getting some one-on-one time with Cam, but that flew right out the window as soon as they met.
So, after packing up the event, and ensuring that all the vendors and sponsors were paid and go to go, I asked my cousins to drop her home.
I said goodbye to Brandon, and talked to Stefan and the rest of my team, minus Makaia, about the next steps.
I couldn't be around her or my mother for much longer.
Or else we did aguh get into it...
My mother and I rarely butt heads to this extreme, but when we did it never ended pretty.
Betta we juss cool off first.
Deal wid dis tomorrow.
Makaia is a next one, nah talk back to her till after the weekend over, or until she decide fi step forward wid di truth.
Who can I trust these days?
Stefan pulls into my driveway, and parks behind my car.
