Hello again.

At least I was paired with Reyna and Sebastian.

We were posted in some random trench on the Field of Mars, which is about as nightmarish as you might expect. It is a vast plot of land with craters, wetlands, trenches, shrapnel, and any other dangerous/flooded/torched space you can imagine. It is called the Field of Mars because it is a field, and it is dedicated to the god of war, Mars, who happens to be Lisa's father. This is scary because I had not realized the depth of war until I arrived here and was placed in a trench. I was reminded of my old history lessons, where we learned that soldiers in trenches often died due to famine and disease caused by rats. They even had their toes munched off by rats.

I was keeping a very watchful eye out for rats.

"It stinks in here," Sebastian complained. He was to be our messenger, for two reasons. One; he is very fast. Two; his grandfather is the messenger god Mercury. Our mission was to keep an eye out for danger (other legionnaires) and Sebastian was to relay what we saw to other teams. We were not expected to fight. Because we are new, Jason decided to put us in a relatively low-traffic area, which I appreciated. I stopped complaining about everything, but I was still terrified.

Reyna held her sword quite strongly, like she was very used to holding it. Sebastian had very little gear so he could move from place to place with more ease, but he had a pilum in hand. I held a dagger because it was light.

"I hear something," Reyna said, frowning as she peeked her head above the trench. Her body was poised and ready to strike, which was impressive when you considered how little training we had. It led me further towards the belief that she had come from somewhere more than Puerto Rico. "Sebastian, look to the left."

"What about me?" I asked.

Sebastian suddenly lifted me up, and I struggled to remain quiet, but he held me by the armpits so I could see out. Reyna had climbed on the old ladder to get out of the trench, and Sebastian is over almost six feet tall, so he can see just fine. It then occurred to me that I was being held like a baby by someone that didn't really like babies, which was odd, but Sebastian didn't complain and we all looked out of the trench.

"There," I said, pointing at a mob of legionnaires headed our way. They couldn't see us, but they were definitely looking.

"Where?" Sebastian asked, peeking past my shoulder. "Oh. Uh-oh."

"I thought Jason said this was low-traffic," Reyna hissed, lowering her head.

"Maybe he got us mixed up," Sebastian suggested. "Are we on the west side of the field, or the east?"

"It matters?" I asked him.

"Yeah, the east side is way busier." Then a song occurred to him. "He used to meet me on the Eastside~"

"I can't tell," Reyna complained. "It's overcast. I thought the weather here is controlled?"

"They do that on purpose," I told her. "I read about it in the library. They'll make it overcast sometimes so we can train and learn to use our natural inner compass." I looked at Sebastian. "And we're west, by the way."
