Chapter 4- Debt, Debt, Debt

That next morning Strauss runs up to me and my sister saying "Adlers! I have a job for you ladies!" I say "What's the job?"

he says "I have people that owe me money and I need y'all to go retrieve it for me!!!!!" Sadie says "Go get the damn money yourself bastard" and walks off.

he says "I need you to go get the money for me" I say "What's in it for me?" he says "You're helping me out"

Arthur walks up to me and Strauss says "Arthur, I need you to do a job for me" Arthur says "Yes, Strauss?" he says "I need you to collect some debt money for me"

Arthur sighs and says "Adler, wanna ride with me?" I say "Sure, why not, this should be fun" and smiles, Strauss says "Alright! The names are Mr. Wobel, Thomas Downes, Chick Matthews, and Lilly Millet, just get the money from them no matter what" and pushes us along.

we headed to Wobel first, it took a while to find his house but once we did, he let us in, Arthur says "alright feller, I'm here retrieving money you borrowed from Strauss, pay up partner"

he says "Ich... ich... ich habe kein Geld" Panicking (I... I... I dont have no money) Arthur says "WHERES THE DAMN MONEY?"

Wobel says "Ich habe dir gesagt, dass ich kein Geld habe" (I done told you I have no money) Arthur says "Money, monnneyyyyyyy!!!!" I just laugh at how he said money.

I say "Arthur, sweetie, that's not gonna make him understand you any better" Chucklin', he says "Search the house then" getting annoyed.

we start searching and find nothing, Arthur says "dammit, the more I search the madder I'm fixin' to get!!" I say "Just keep looking, we have to find something" intensely searching the house.

we walk back to the guy finding nothing, and he's standing right in front of a dresser guarding it as it seems.

Arthur says "imma tellin' you this once partner, move" Of course the man doesn't move so Arthur grabs him and pushes him to the ground.

Wobel says "I... I... I have nothin'" in his German accent, I say "So you do speak English!?" smirking as Arthur grabs the debt, he says "alright I got the debt" and punches the man knocking him out.

we leave and I say "dont you think that was a little much?" he says "No, dont borrow something you dont have" We then ride over to Mr. Downes's house.

I say "Let me deal with this one" Smiling, he says "Go for it'" Smiling back, we pull up and I say "Are you, Thomas Downes?"

he says "I am, how can I help you?" I say "We're here on behalf of Leopold Strauss, you owe him some money and we're here to collect it" smiling.

he says "I'm sorry I don't have any money right now, I told him I'd pay him back as soon as I could" Arthur says "The man wants his damn money so pass it up!" starting to walk towards him.

I say "Arthur hold on" I walk up to him saying "Mr. Downes, I understand but do you have anything you could give us in return for the money?"

Arthur says "dont negotiate with him... Downes, give us the money" walking towards him aggressively.

He grabs him by the shirt and punches him, the man starts coughing "I... I dont have anything" and coughs blood right on Arthur.

I say "Arthur! he's sick!" his wife runs out screaming "Thomas!! my husband, he's deathly sick, we have no money!" running to her husband.

Arthur throws him to the ground as his wife attends to him, I walk over saying "Ma'am is there anything we can do to help him?" she says "No, unfortunately" sobbing her eyes out.

Arthur says "Come on y/n, we have other debts to get back" As I follow him, we then go to the other two people, of course, we had to beat them a bit and of course, there was a witness so Arthur went and dealt with them while I recovered the money.

We head back to the camp, I say before we get there, "Arthur that man was deathly sick" Arthur says "he still owes the money" I say "You gonna catch it now, he has Tuberculosis, there's no cure for that" looking nervous.

he says "We will cross that bridge when we get there, Let's return this to Strauss before anything else happens" and runs faster on the horse.

the rest of the ride I'm so silent, Arthur says "Somethin' wrong Adler?" I say "You know there is, he has Tuberculosis and now you're going to catch it" and looks down sadly.

he says "As I said, we will deal with that when it comes, dont worry about me, you're always worrying about me" smiling.

I say "As long as I know you Morgan I'm going to worry about you" Once we arrive at camp Arthur storms off to Strauss as I follow behind him.

he yells "YOU BASTARD! MR. DOWNES IS DYING! AND YOU MADE ME COLLECT DEBT FROM A SICK DYING MAN!? ARE YOU CRAZY!?" clearly upset with Mr. Strauss.

He says "Calm down Mr. Morgan, did you get the money?" I say "Yes we got the damn money, here" and throws it at him, he says "That goes to the gang savings, it's not mine" and walks away.

Arthur says "I'm gonna go out for a while if you're lookin' for me, I might not be back tonight" I say "Alright, try not to die hah" and smiles, he walks off and mounts his horse, exiting the camp.

Arthurs pov-

I mount my horse and head off to Lake Isabel, which is by Colter, it'll probably be a day's worth of a trip but it'll be worth it, I need the time away.

I almost made it there but decided to camp out in a small town near there so I can find my surprise for y/n in the morning and be back but midnight tomorrow.

that next morning I make the final set out for Lake Isabel, it doesn't take me much longer to arrive, and I begin my surprise search.

I go up the small hill, around the corner, and back down, and there it is, the most beautiful creature I've ever seen, a beautiful white Arabian horse.

I near the horse, not spooking it, so I get out my lasso and capture it, i finally calm the beauty and break it after some time of getting bucked off a few times more than I'd like to say.

after finally breaking the wild horse, I mount it and ride it back to Valentine, the trip back was an adventure, I ran into many wolves on my trip down.

I arrive back at camp around sunset, i call out for y/n, I finally find her and say "Hey, umm y/n, I have something for you"

y/ns pov-

I hear Arthur calling for me so I turn around, hearing "Hey, umm y/n, I have something for you" I say "Hey cowboy! I missed you! how was your trip?"

he says "It went well, killed some wolves while on my little treasure hunt, I have something for you, come on" and walks off.

I follow Arthur until he says "Stop" I say "Wait, what's the surprise?" he says "You'll see" and comes up behind me covering my eyes with his hands, and says "Okay, walk this way, dont worry, I got you" and smiles even though I can't see him.

he then says after a few moments of walking "Okay, here" and removes his hands, I see this beautiful white horse standing right in front of me.

I say "Arthur! Where did you find this!?" he says "I went out near Lake Isabel and caught her, I saw her when we were up there but I left her alone, I knew you needed a horse so I got the best one yet, many people have tried to get her but she's a stubborn one to catch" and chuckles.

I say "Oh Arthur! This... this is beautiful! I love her so much, I can't thank you enough" and hug him tightly, meanwhile Micah is standing near us watching intently.

we spend some time with her, bonding with her,after awhile, we walk back and pass Micah, still standing there, he says "That's a mighty fine horse you got there cowpoke" smirking.

Arthur says "And she's not for you, go catch your own horse" and walks away grabbing my hand and pulling me away from Micah with him.

I think to myself "This isn't good, I'm falling for this man within such little time"
