At the same time in his room Tanjiro was looking at his phone. He was trying to tell himself that Zenitsu was wrong by looking at the photos he and Rengoku had taken at the beach. No matter how he looked at the photos, all he saw was love in Rengoku's eyes. But Zenitsu hadn't been completely wrong Rengoku was hiding something from him and he knew it. He wished more than anything that Rengoku would tell him whatever it was. Tanjiro could forgive almost anything but not knowing hurt. He let out the tears he held back in the car. He looked at his phone one more time and decided to do something about how he was feeling. Tanjiro quickly typed a message to Rengoku then hit send.
Can we meet? There is something I need to ask you.
T.
It only took Rengoku 2 long minutes to respond to his anxious mate.
Sure love. Where and when?
R.
Now and anywhere is fine.
T.
Ok give me 15 minutes. Love you and see you soon. 😚
R.
See you soon.
T.
After what felt like forever to Tanjiro he was waiting for his mate right outside his door. While he was walking out of the house Tanjiro had walked by Zenitsu's room, what he heard made him all the more sad. Tanjiro had heard what sounded like muffled sobs, that's when he knew that Zenitsu really had fallen for his mate but he just couldn't bring himself to accept it. He was still thinking about his friend when he heard a voice calling his name.
"Tanjiro? Why are you outside?" Rengoku asked with clear concern in his voice.
"I was waiting for you." Tanjiro looked up at his mate, showing off his watery and red eyes. This immediately made Rengoku angry, who dared to make his mate cry.
"Tanjiro..." Rengoku took a deep breath to not scare his already upset mate. "Why are you crying?"
"I need to ask you something." Said Tanjiro completely ignoring his mate's question. He knew that if answered he would cry again. And right now he needed answers.
"Sure." Rengoku said not pressing for an answer to his question.
"What...What are you hiding from me?" It came out shaky but Tanjiro had finally asked.
"I..." Rengoku paused and thought about his answer. Even though he did plan to tell Tanjiro about his real job one day, he never thought it would be so soon.
"Rengoku...I love you but I can't keep going like this. I know you're hiding something from me and it is hurting me more than you just telling me. I can forgive or accept almost anything but I need to know." Tanjiro was crying.
"Babe, I promise to tell you but let's go somewhere to talk first." Rengoku said as he pulled his sobbing mate into a hug. "So please don't cry."
Tanjiro managed a nod as he kept his head on his mate's shoulder. Rengoku guided his mate to his car. Once inside he drapted his coat on Tanjiro and quickly pulled out his phone and sent a quick message to Uzui and started his car. He pulled out of his parking spot and started driving.
"Where are we going?" Tanjiro managed to ask in a quiet voice and he poked his face out from behind the coat.
"My house." Rengoku said with a small smile. He loved when his mate was being cute.
"I've never been there before." Tanjiro said, sitting up and looking at Rengoku.
"If i'm going to tell you the truth, where better than my domain." Rengoku said with a side smile. His smile dropped his smile as he continued to talk. "I'm sorry that this has hurt you. It was never my intention. But I need you to promise me that whatever I tell you, you will have an open mind and heart."
"I promise." Tanjiro said with a nod as he laid back against his chair. It only took them about 20 minutes to get to Rengoku place. They rode in a comfortable silence, though the weight of the conversation to come was weighing on Tanjiro's mind. He hoped whatever this secret was, it didn't hurt him too much. They pulled up to a fancy looking apartment complex, weird Tanjiro thought this seemed to be a very nice place for a bartender. But Flashy Sound was a nice place. Maybe they did enough business for Rengoku to afford this place. They walked hand' n' hand into the building and walked through the nice lobby to the elevator. In no time at all they were walking into a nice apartment that didn't look lived in. Rengoku led Tanjiro to the couch and the two of them sat down.
"So are you going to tell me what happened tonight that brought all this on?" Rengoku asks as he snuggle his mate close. Tanjiro looked at him and started retelling the events of the night, how Zenitsu was attacked by an Alpha and what the two of them had discussed in the cab ride home. After listening to his mate talk Rengoku had the strong urge to yell at Zenitsu but it really wasn't the Omega fault lots of Alpha are asswholes. Also he and Uzui were keeping secrets.
"I'm sorry that keeping this secret has been hurting. The truth is..."
Earlier that same night at the Uzui main house...
Uzui was as giddy as a school girl who just got their first boyfriend. He was looking for other places to take his adorable little mate on dates. Tengen had to admit when he first found out about Zenitsu he wasn't sure they would work things out but to his delight things were going well. He knew that Zenitsu was still a little skittish when it came to Uzui being his mate but he hoped with enough time and love Zenitsu would happily accept their mating.
Uzui was looking for a common date place when his phone buzzed in his hand. He was overjoyed when he saw that it was a text from his mate. The joy quickly turned to rage when he read what the text said.
I don't think this is going to work. Don't contact me again. I'm sorry, please find a different mate.
Zenitsu.
He tried calling Zenitsu but his mate must have turned his phone off. What does he mean to find another mate? Uzui didn't want another mate, he loved Zenitsu. Uzui knew that they hadn't known each other for long but he loved him with all his heart already. He was still trying to call Zenitsu when another text came through, this time it was from Rengoku.
Something happened while our mates were at work. Mine is crying and is demanding to be told the truth. You need to check on Zenitsu.
R.
After reading the message, Uzui jumped up and quickly got dressed and headed for his car. If Tanjiro wanted to know the truth that means so does Zenitsu but would he still want Uzui after knowing it? Because his rejection would hurt more than anything else in the world.
Driving like a mad man, Uzui made his way to his mates home. He knew that he could make things better if he could just talk to him face to face.
At the same time Zenitsu finally managed to stop crying, he got up from his bed and made his way to the kitchen. All the crying made his throat dry, he grabbed a glass from the cupboard just to the right of him. Once he had his water he took a long drink when a knock came. Realizing that he was the only one home he made his way to open the door, though he wondered who could be coming by this late. He stopped right in front of the door, he was about to grab the knob when he thought it might be his mate.
Another knock broke Zenitsu thoughts. Even if it was his mate he wasn't backing down. Bracing himself he slowly opened the door. He realized his mistake too late. Before he could react there was a bag over his head and several large hands had grabbed him. He screamed as loud as he could when a punch to his stomach knocked the wind out of him. Another swift hit had blackness coming over him.
"Don't worry little Omega, we won't hurt you too much. Someone special wants to meet you." A voice that Zenitsu kind of recognized as the asswhole from earlier, Kaigaku.
Before the darkness fully took him all he could think was being an Omega brought him nothing but hurt.
