17: Gone

"No...!" Gajeel dived in through the trees. He ran as fast as he could. With a million thoughts running through his mind.

Why does he want her? Will I lose her? Can I catch up? Can I save her? Can I not be the useless piece of shit I am? For once!?

He could still hear her screams for help. The more he ran, the more he felt like he couldn't get to her. The closer he felt he got, Levy felt farther and farther away to him.

He refused to give up. He loved her, with all his heart. And he was willing to be with her always, never be apart.

But he ran all the way to the other side of the forest. She was... Gone. He fell to his knees.

He thought why?! How could I be so useless? I knew he was chasing her for a long time now... But... I failed her... What kind of a man am I to her? To just let her disappear...

In that moment he felt a rage. A feeling of anger and hatred like never before.

"No..." He growled to himself. "I'm not gonna lose her... I know she's still there... There's something I'm missing... "

"Now... Where would he go next?" After getting more thought, he realized "Oh! Lucy! He wanted her, too! Maybe... If I can get to her place in time..."

In an instant he was darting his ass on over to her house. He was lucky as hell that she didn't live too far away, or he'd really be fucked.

As he ran down the street, pushing past people, he finally reached there. But something was wrong. Something was very wrong.

He knew she wasn't gotten to yet, but he could feel a very dark and evil presence.

He could not tell from where it was emanating, but he went ahead and banged on the door anyway. "LUCY. OPEN UP. PLEASE AND THANK YOU."

No less than 5 seconds later, she swung the door opened. Instead of complaining, like usual, she said "oh, Gajeel! Hi! What's up, and where's Levy?"

Gajeel clenched his hands. "thATS WHY I'M HERE! ... Er, ahem. May I come in?"

"Of course you can." She let him in. "At least you knock, unlike Natsu."

"hEY." They heard him in the other room. "Shut up or I'll knock YOU up."

"Yeah, like you would. Watch your mouth, fire hazard." She emotionally said, rolling her eyes, and let Gajeel in.

"Ah. He's here. Sup, Bro." Gajeel waved.

Natsu strutted over. "Ey, man!" Thet bro-fisted. "What brings ya to Lucy's lovely abode~?"

Lucy groaned. "It is nOT LOVELY." ... "Don't tell my landlord I said that. She'll whoop my sorry dumb blonde ass."

They laughed. "U-um... Just a problem." Gajeel sighed. "Remember that whack ass blonde guy that showed up and practially destroyed your life?" He asked Lucy

Lucy sat up from her chair. "Oh. That freak? Yeah. I swear to Mavis, he would've raped me if Levy hadn't swooped in."

Natsu spit out some fire. "whAT THE FUCK!?"

Gajeel stood there with a face of disgust.

"Yep." Lucy said, clearly not sounding traumatized. "He threatened me. He talked some shit about 'Using artificial magic to destroy Fiore' and then he threatened to rape me over my keys. What a crackhead. So, let me guess. He took Levy?"

Gajeel shuddered and nodded. "Yeah... I couldn't get her back. I'm kinda a failure..."

Natsu patted his back. "Nah, man. You coulda totally got him! Lucy told me he used illusion magic."

Gajeel raised an eyebrow. "Are you telling me I ran my ass through a big forest only to pass by someone who was clearly close to me the WHOLE FUCKING TIME?"

Natsu laughed. "Haha... Yeah. Sorry."

Lucy got up and threw her hair back. "He should be here any minute. With luck, we could chase him back to his hiding place. Find Levy, beat his skinny ass, and yay, happy ending. Then we can get all emotional and then you two can get home and fuck like a normal couple."

Natsu just nodded, he learned not to laugh. For once.

Gajeel widened his eyes and almost said something, but Lucy stopped him with "Got it? Okay? Okay."

Gajeel sighed.

Natsu couldn't hold it in. "Since you and Loke are a couple, do you and him--"

Lucy pinched his mouth shut. "Natsu. Don't say it. Just don't say it..."

Gajeel groaned. "Will you two stop? Let's be serious. I sensed a dark presence when I showed up. I think he'll be here really soon."

Natsu did his hand-fist clasp. "So then. Let's hide, chase him, and take him down together!"

Lucy nodded. "I got a good hiding spot. For you both."

They both gulped.

5 Minutes Later, they were stuck together in her big kitchen pantry. "Stay here. Both of you. Don't move until I give the signal."

"Okay. But why do I have to be like this?" Natsu asked, confused.

Gajeel was crouched, Natsu on Gajeel's back with his hands around him.

"Because she said so. Stop complaining." Gajeel bluntly said.

Natsu over-dramatically sighed and plopped his head on Gajeel's shoulder. "Too bad you're not Gray... Not that I don't enjoy this."

Gajeel widened his eyes. "What!?"

"...what?" Natsu said, acting like nothing happened.

"Wh-whatever nevermind just stay where you are and don't move." Gajeel said, irritated.

5 minutes later, the dark feeling filled the whole place. "Gajeel" Natsu whispered "you feel that?"

"Yeah" he whispered back "he's here. This fucker is gonna get fucked."

Then, out of nowhere, A loud flash and a thunderbolt sounded. Lucy yelled, and the two Dragons jumped out.

Yozora whirled around, grabbed Lucy, and started to dart off. "GUYS!" She screamed.

The two hurried out of her place and dashed down the street in pursuit. "Aw, fuck me!" Natsu yelled "When did it start raining?"

"Since a minute ago, now keep running, Salamander!" Gajeel angrily yelled, running faster.

They almost had it. He would lead them to Levy. Gajeel was determined to get her back. But would he?
