eight.
Minutes passed of silence and I wanted to say something so, so bad. But I knew that if I did, Zach would turn it around and somehow relate it to me being spoiled. I really didn't need to hear that.
I leaned back in my chair and covered my eyes with my arm to block the sunlight. I figured that I might as well relax until we got to safety.
"Want to play twenty questions?" I heard Gray ask excitedly. He'd been humming some kind of song for a while. "I'll ask first and then Zach and then Mackenzie."
"No," Zach said bitterly. I peeked from under my arm and saw that he was actually focusing really hard on driving. His brows were furrowed and he was gripping the steering wheel until his knuckles were white. "Let's shut up."
I looked out the side and saw that we were still in the woods. I laid back down again.
"I want to play," I decided. I adjusted my arm over my eyes again. "Ask."
"Of course you'd want to," Zach muttered.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I looked at him suspiciously and he didn't give me a single glance.
"Okay first question!" Gray interrupted us. "What's your favorite color? Mine is surprisingly not Gray, get it?"
It was quiet and no one said anything.
"Okay anyway," He trailed off. "Who's going to answer?"
"I like silver," I replied.
"Okay, Zach?" Gray turned his attention to his brother and I was slowly falling asleep. Running for my life really took the energy from me. "What about you?"
"My favorite color is fuck off," His voice dripped with sarcasm and I wondered why he was suddenly so bitter. "Can I pay attention to where we're going now?"
"Why're you so pissed?" I asked suddenly. I sat up to look at him. "He's just trying to make sure we're not bored."
"You're not the one driving and looking for the park, Mackenzie," He rolled his eyes at me and I raised an eyebrow. "So unless you're contributing you should just listen."
"Then get out of the driver's seat and let me drive," I crossed my arms over my chest. "It's not like you're good at it, anyway."
"Guys?" Gray tried to interrupt but I didn't stop talking.
"You're really pissing me off," I continued. "I know you put yourself at risk by grabbing onto me, but I didn't ask you to do that. I didn't ask you to do anything for me, you did it yourself, so unless you want to stop being a stupid douchebag then I suggest-"
"Guys!" Gray snapped. I looked at him in confusion and he was staring straight behind us.
There was a huge flock of pterodactyls flying our way. My eyes widened in shock and I grabbed Zach's arm. I don't know why I did, but I assumed it was a reflex.
"Can you go any faster?" I shrieked. They were coming closer and I felt like I was going to piss myself if we didn't get out of here fast.
"I'm fucking trying," Zach snapped. The car was speeding and going over the various bumps. I nearly fell out the side.
"The gate!" Gray announced. I turned my attention from the dinosaurs and saw the barriers. "Tell them to open the gate!"
"Open the gate!" I shouted as loud as I could. The guards didn't do anything and I let go of Zach's arm so I could stand up. "Open the fucking gate! We're being chased!"
The thing still hadn't budged and we'd end up crashing if they didn't open the doors. What was taking them so damn long? Had they not noticed the hundreds of flying death machines heading their way?
