Mackenzie was sitting inside the jeep, her attention clearly elsewhere. Gray fumbled with the wrench I gave him.
"Hey, can I tell you something?" I asked. I leaned over the battery and began tinkering with it.
"What's up?" Gray asked excitedly. "I love secrets."
"Yeah, well this one you've got to keep to yourself," I rolled my eyes as I picked up two wires. I pretended to be occupied with them. "Can you do that?"
"Of course I can do that!" Gray nearly shouted. I dropped the things in surprise before turning to glare at him. "What?"
"Learn how to whisper," I said through gritted teeth. He nodded once and I took a deep breath. "Okay, well, I think I like Mackenzie."
Think wasn't exactly the best way to put it. Throughout this whole crisis I couldn't help but develop feelings for the spoiled brat. Behind her bitchy demeanor she was actually, in a way, down to earth. She was also super pretty and I found her attitude hilarious, especially when I pissed her off, which I admit to doing on purpose.
Gray was quiet for once and I wondered how he was going to react, all until he busted out laughing.
I narrowed my eyes at him, "What's so funny?"
"Hah- Sorry," He stopped. "It's just funny that you thought I didn't notice."
"How'd you notice?" I asked incredulously. I swore that I was lowkey about it. "I'm being a complete dickwad, douche, to her."
"Just because I'm younger doesn't mean I'm blind to things," My little brother shrugged carelessly before turning back to our project. "But, seriously, mom told me once that some boys are mean to girls they like."
I felt my face heat up with embarrassment, so I shook my head to clear my mind. "Okay, well, whatever."
"Do you think she likes you?" He asked curiously.
"Not sure yet," I answered, connecting the two colored wires. "Anyway, engines up and running."
He moved out of the way so I could drop the hood down. I knocked on it once before saying, "Turn the key."
She did what I told her to and the engine came on.
Gray did a small cheer before cupping his hands over his mouth, whisper-shouting, "Now I have something to blackmail you with."
I clenched my jaw in frustration as he smiled wickedly. For a kid, he was pretty evil. "Just get in the damn jeep."
He practically skipped to the backseat and climbed aboard. I walked over to the driver's side and got in.
Mackenzie was awkwardly quiet, and I couldn't help but wonder if she heard what I said. It'd actually be sort of weird if she hadn't, considering how much of a big mouth my brother was. I sighed.
"Let's get going then," I went back to acting sarcastic and rude like before, just in case she did.
"I thought you failed your drivers test," Gray suddenly said.
I saw Mackenzie make a weird face. I shrugged, "Just the driving part."

The jeep ride was, like every other moment, silent. Mackenzie was laying back against the seat with her arm draped over her eyes and I was gripping the steering wheel as if my life depended on it.
Driving in video games was way easier than in an actual car, I realized.
I found that I was thinking more of Evelyn every now and then than before, and I'd compare her to Mackenzie. She was a lot more clingy than she was and, un-doubtfully, way more annoying. I knew I should've broken up with her when I had the chance.
Of course, it wasn't my fault, because how could I have known that I'd meet Mackenzie here?
I was pulled from my realizations as soon as my brother's voice spoke, "Wanna play Twenty Questions? I'll ask first, and then Zach, and then Mackenzie."
"No," I snapped. I was annoyed that he cut me off. "Let's shut up."
"I want to play," Mackenzie said. "Ask."
"Of course you'd want to," I muttered. I did feel bad for being rude to her, but for some reason I couldn't be too nice to her.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked. I knew she was staring at me.
"Okay first question!" Gray interrupted us. "What's your favorite color? Mine is surprisingly not Gray, get it?"
I didn't say anything and clenched the wheel harder to refrain from being rude, again.
"Okay, anyway," He trailed off. "Who's going answer?"
"I like silver," Mackenzie answered.
"Okay, Zach?" Gray turned his attention to me. "What about you?"
I chewed on my inner cheek before saying, "My favorite color is fuck off. Can I pay attention to the road now?"
"Why're you so pissed?" She asked suddenly, sitting up to look at me better. "He's just trying to make sure we're not bored."
"You're not the one driving and looking for the park, Mackenzie," I replied in a dull tone. "So, unless you're contributing, you should just listen."
"Then get out of the driver's seat and let me drive," She crossed her arms over her chest. "It's not like you're good at it, anyway."
I went to open my mouth, but I looked from the corner of my eye and saw that she actually looked bothered.
