Chapter 10

Albedo gazed at Gabriella then switched his glance at Alhaitham, he smiled at little Gabriella, and he swung his hand, creating a beautiful crystal rose. He gave the rose to Gabriella. Gabriella's eyes widened as a smile crept into her face, she was so fascinated by the crystal rose. Alhaitham look at Gabriella.

"You should go play with that guy over there, me and Uncle Alhaitham need to talk about something," Albedo suggested while pointing at Xiao who was surprised to hear it, he raised his body while blinking in disbelief.

Gabriella nodded, and stepped closer to Xiao, Xiao stared at the little kid, his face was stern and cold. He noticed how Gabriella looked a bit scared, he groaned in irritation before putting up a fake friendly face. Albedo stared at Alhaitham before lending out his hand, Alhaitham gave the hyacinth to Albedo.

Albedo took it and slowly analyzed it. In his case, it's the same hyacinth, which means the killer is the same person. He put the flower inside a jar before placing it somewhere far from Gabriella's grasp.

"So, mind explaining why you suddenly bring a child here?" Albedo asked while crossing his hands, raising an eyebrow while tilting it.

Alhaitham took a deep breath before he started explaining everything to him. Albedo listened carefully to his explanation taking notes of every detail. After Alhaitham finished his explanation, Albedo appeared to be deep in thought. He hummed a bit while massaging his chin.

"Interesting, your case seemed similar to mine." Albedo assumed, Alhaitham tilted his head while putting his hand on his hip.

"Really? The victim dying from Hanahaki disease and some deadly gas spreading through their room?" Alhaitham inquired, Albedo nodded slowly, and his eyes landed on Gabriella who was on Xiao's lap, playing with a bird plushie that Xiao gave her. Albedo's eyes softened at her smile, reminiscing his past with his little sister.

"I don't know how that kid survived the Changeling wrath, but I'm glad she did, she's still too young to die after all and is innocent." He turned his head to Alhaitham. "Make sure to take care of her well, and if you have a job to finish, just give the child to me so that I can watch over her while you're gone."

"I will don't worry. I appreciate the help Albedo." Alhaitham praised as he sighed in relief. Suddenly Alhaitham remembered something he wanted to talk about with Albedo.

"The corrupted video has been neutralized, and... I need your opinion on it." 

Albedo nodded slowly, Alhaitham took out his phone, searching for the video before he gave the phone to Albedo. Albedo played the video, watching it with a curious look, some of the videos were cut off, not giving the whole picture. He noticed the Changeling observing the security camera before giving a sinister smile and putting their index finger on their lips.

They muttered the words: "This is just the beginning" before the video abruptly ended. Albedo stayed quiet as his eyebrows furrowed, his expression was unreadable. He looks up to Alhaitham.

"She's playing with us, Haith." Alhaitham stayed silent

"This is just the beginning."

Those words are stuck in his head, the beginning? Does it mean there's gonna be more murder cases due to this change? If Albedo's case and his case are connected in a way, that means this Changeling is doing anything to provoke them, daring them to catch the Changeling, all of it... is just a game to them.

He clenches his fists while gritting his teeth. This changeling doesn't care if she just traumatized an innocent child like Gabriella, to them, it's just another victim she needed to kill fulfilling their messed-up mindset about justice. He calmed himself down and looked at Albedo.

"Then we'll have to play our part. If we don't play our part, the Changeling would still do anything to catch our attention." Alhaitham stated with a calm yet cold tone. The aura around him changed completely.

Albedo looked at Xiao, Xiao nodded while still holding Gabriella who was playing with her plushie. They're gonna play their part, making sure to end the changeling plans once and for all.
