"Alright, meet me in my lab as usual, grab the hyacinth from the little girl's hands, and DON'T let her touch or even smell it," Albedo warned across the phone.
"Alright, thanks for the warning Albedo." Alhaitham hung up the phone before looking at the girl, she had calmed down yet there was still a slight shiver in her body.
Alhaitham sighed, the little girl stayed silent, not uttering a single word. He came close to the girl and lent out his hand paired with his gentle eyes.
"Can you give me the hyacinth Gabriella?" He asked politely.
Gabriella stayed quiet, her hand still holding the little purse that had the hyacinth flower. She wasn't sure if she should give the flower to him in the first place.
Alhaitham noticed her hesitation and exhaled before grabbing the little purse carefully. Gabriella's eyes widened, and she instantly stopped Alhaitham from entering the bag.
"Don't.. you're going to die if you touch it.." the girl exclaimed as she pulled her purse away from him.
"I'm not going to, I'm immune to this type of stuff." He responded, comforting Gabriella.
The little girl stayed quiet, this man does have magical abilities which means he's immune to any poisonous magic yet.. she had a bad feeling that if she were to give this flower to the man, something bad would happen.
She was shivering a bit before admitting defeat, pulling the hyacinth flower out of her purse and giving it to Alhaitham. Alhaitham took the flower and put it in a jar to make sure it didn't wither. Nothing happened, she sighed in relief as she felt like nothing happened. Alhaitham gazed at Gabriella before putting his hand on her shoulder.
"Look, we'll put you in an adoption center so you can get new parents okay?" Alhaitham said, Gabriella nodded slowly. Alhaitham smiled as he patted Gabriella's head to calm her down. She stayed silent.
"Can't I just stay in your house Mr gray Hair?" She said, that she didn't want to go to the adoption center, because she doesn't trust the people in the adoption center, she heard from her parents that when she was little she was being drugged by the workers and went through a lot of pain.
She wants to stay with Alhaitham in his house because well... He seemed like a nice person. Alhaitham stayed quiet and shook his head as much as he wanted to adopt her. He can't take care of her at all, he's busy most of the time and won't be able to even keep an eye on her. He hasn't gotten his brother's permission even to take care of the kid.
Gabriella only looked down, she let go of Alhaitham's shirt collar. She looks disappointed with his answer. Alhaitham wanted to leave but he stopped once he saw Gabriella's solemn face. Alhaitham took out his phone and called someone. Suddenly someone picked up the phone.
"Oh Haith, is there something you need?" Ratio asked with his natural British accent while sipping some coffee. Alhaitham took a deep breath before opening his mouth.
"Brother, can I request something? It's quite a ridiculous ask.." Alhaitham responded as he groaned a bit, he couldn't believe he was asking his brother for this.
"Oh really? What is it?"
"Can we.. take care of a child?"
Ratio stayed quiet, and a groan came out of his mouth, Alhaitham realized it was a mistake calling his brother about this, and he gulped as he waited for his brother's answer.
"And why do you want to take care of a child? We're busy 24/7, we can't expect the child to take care of themself while we're gone." Ratio stated, that some papers are being flipped.
"Why do you want to adopt a child so suddenly?"
"She doesn't want to go to the adoption center, I think it's because of the rumors that most adoption centers are lab experiments.."
Ratio stayed silent, the adoption center rumors were certainly true. Most of the adoption centers were a laboratory to search for kids that have sorcery. Once they found the kids that had them, they would experiment on them, from mild to extreme depending on the rarity of their power.
Flashes of Alhaitham trying to hold his Scream while being experimented on and seeing his little brother suffer alone while they were kids still haunt him to this day.
He shook his head, he couldn't let this innocent girl suffer the same fate as them so with no other way, he had to search for a LEGIT adoption center and take care of her. He massages his nose a bit before responding.
"I'll search for a REAL adoption center, you can take care of the child, after I find one, we'll hand her over to that adoption center once I find her" Ratio stated with an exasperated tone. Alhaitham sighed and only nodded.
"I understand, I'll make sure to take good care of her while she's still on my watch," Alhaitham responded, now he has to take care of a child for the time being, and he hoped the Akademiya would let him since he might get more evidence from her once she got comfortable with him.
