"all ready to go?" chris asked once you entered the car and clicked in your seatbelt. he had offered to drive again since you were pretty exhausted from last night. you probably had thanked chris over one hundred times already, but he finally told you to stop thanking him and that it was the least he could do for you right now to prepare yourself to talk to your dad once you arrived home.

"yep, all ready." you smiled at your boyfriend.

chris smiled back and started the car then reached his arm over the center console to your lap, gently taking your hand and pulling it back over the center console to his lap, resting both of your hands on chris's thigh as he intertwined your fingers together.

the drive home was peacefully quiet. you and chris stopped at a starbucks on the way to get some breakfast and we're back on the road. you thought about what you were going to say to your dad, but nothing came to mind. chris said you'd know what to say when the time came, so you trusted him and went with it.

and before you knew it, you were pulling into your driveway. chris turned off the car, then brought his hand over to your thigh, giving it an encouraging squeeze and turning to you and smiling to let you know it's okay. you tore your gaze away from the front door of your house to the blue-eyed boy next to you. you tried to smile, but it just turned into a little tug at the corner of your mouth in attempt.

"hey, love, everything will be okay, i promise. i can wait here until your done talking if that would help you?" chris gave your thigh another encouraging squeeze as his eyebrows furrowed.

"you'd do that?" you asked, immediately softening up and relaxing.

"of course, baby, i'd do anything to make this easier for you. would you like that?" chris smiled.

you nodded, looking down to chris's lips then back up to his drowning blue eyes, wanting to kiss him right now. chris got the memo and brought his other hand up to your chin as he leaned in and pulled your face closer to his and kissed you softly a few times.

you giggled as he pressed his soft lips against your forehead. "now, are you ready to go talk to your dad?" chris asked.

you nodded again. "yeah, i'm ready." you sighed, unbuckling your seatbelt and opening the car door and climbing out but before leaving you turned around to face chris again. "i'll be back in a few to tell you how it went, okay?"

"okay. i'm proud of you, y/n." chris gave you a warm smile as you returned it then shut the car door, waving to him as you walked to the house.

you sucked in a deep breath before slowly opening the front door and stepping into the house, shutting the door behind you. the house was still and quiet, but you smelled food and assumed your dad was cooking, or had been cooking.

"y/n?" you heard your dads voice call from the kitchen. "is that you honey? i'm in here." he spoke again.

you sucked in another breath, dropping your bag to the floor then making your way into the kitchen. there he was, putting some food away in the fridge.

"hi, dad." you spoke, your voice calm.

your dad spun around, meeting your eyes and smiling at you. but you didn't smile back. you stood still as a stone, no emotion to your expression, just a blank cold stare. you weren't so sure of what to say, so you waited for your dad to speak. in which he did.

"y/n, i'm so sorry. i stayed up all night last night thinking about what i've done to you. i've been so selfish and such a bad parent to you. you don't deserve to be held back like i have been doing to you. you're grown now and you deserve to go out and live up your teenage years, not be stuck in your room with restrictions and being told what you can and can't do. i don't have a say in any of it and i want you to know i'm trying to listen and understand you from now on and i love you, so much, y/n." your dad blurted out in what sounded like one breath.
