the smell of freshly baked cookies filled the apartment owned by you and your boyfriend. the sound of soft jazz being played in the background on the tv in the living room. you walked into the kitchen, grabbing the oven mitts then opening the oven to reveal a pan of cookies. you smiled, pulling them out of the oven then turning around and setting them onto the counter.
as you were taking the oven mitts off, you felt a pair of familiar arms snake around your waist from behind, his front pressing into your back. you smiled warmly, leaning back into his chest as you set the oven mitts onto the counter. "hi, baby," you whispered.
a pair of soft lips dragged across your bare shoulder, pressing gentle kisses along the way. "are they done?" he mumbled against your skin, his voice soft.
"mhm," you hummed, inhaling as you closed your eyes and leaned further into his touch. it was a cold and rainy sunday winter night and you and your boyfriend, chris were in for the night. these types of nights were your favorite, just you and your favorite person in your cozy apartment together. "i really like the smell if that vanilla candle you got." you whispered seconds later.
chris had bought you a vanilla candle earlier that day when he was out because he knew how much you loved anything vanilla, and the smell reminded him of you. "yeah?" he asked. "it does smell really nice, doesn't it?" he smiled, pressing another kiss against your skin.
you hummed softly again, nodding your head. you eventually broke free from his arms, walking over to a cabinet and getting a plate for the cookies and plating them up while he made a cozy spot for you both on the couch in your living room, filling the cushions with tons of pillows and blankets.
minutes later you walked into the living room with the plate of cookies in your hand and a cup of water for you both. chris took the plate from your hand and set it on the coffee table in front of the couch, then walked over to the light switch to dim all the lights. meanwhile, you set the cup of water down then walked over to your gas fireplace and flipped the switch, watching the fire quickly ignite with flames.
you both cuddled up together on the couch, covering your selves with blankets. you cuddled into chris's chest, resting an arm over his stomach and placing your face between his collar and jaw. he wrapped his arms around you in return, allowing you to cuddle into him as your legs tangled together.
"chris?" you asked. he hummed softly, letting you know he was listening as he clicked out of spotify on the tv, causing the jazz music to come to a halt. "can we please watch that peanuts movie again?" you pleaded.
he sighed, he knew exactly what you were talking about and you've probably watched the same movie together in the past month more than twenty times, he was sure he could write the whole script on paper and not miss a single line the characters spoke. it's the great pumpkin, charlie brown was your current obsession. you honestly didn't think you could watch the movie enough, and it wasn't even halloween anymore.
"okay, baby. we can watch it." he exhaled, clicking a few buttons on the remote until the movie appeared on the screen.
a smile grew across your lips as you giggled softly, lifting your head from his chest and meeting his eyes then leaning down and kissing him. he smiled, kissing you back. honestly, how could he say no to you? you pulled away from his lips. "i love you so much," you spoke, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"i love you too, babe." he replied, chuckling softly as he allowed you to cuddle back into him. he started the movie with a smile, knowing how happy he could make you by just the simplest things.
~
you watched your boyfriend sit up and tug his hoodie over his head, tossing it onto the wood floor next to the couch, leaving him shirtless. he had told you previously how hot it was starting to become with you cuddled up with him, the blankets, and the fireplace all combined; but honestly you had never been more warmer in your life and it was amazing.
"better?" you asked the boy as you shifted on the couch so you were laying on your back now. he nodded down at you, giving you a grin as he leaned down to you and leveled out with your face. he tilted his head up slightly, pressing his lips into yours in a drawn out kiss. you sighed against his lips, lifting a hand and dragging it through his soft and messy hair then allowed him to pull away from your lips.
chris shifted on the couch so he could lay on you now. so, he laid back down and rested his head on your stomach, wrapping his arms around you. you smiled softly, placing your hands in his hair and starting to play with it as both of your attention returned back onto the tv where the movie was still playing.
time passed and your hands had eventually found their way down to his back; you were tracing patterns over his skin and watching goosebumps form under your touch. you knew chris loved when you did this because you always realized how relaxed he became and how still your touch made him. in general, the boy has always loved your touch, even if you were just holding his hand or as simple as having your shoulders pressed together while next to each other. he was always a sucker for physical touch, especially from you.
one of your hands made their way lower down his back to his birthmark on the right side of his back. you've always loved his birthmark, no matter how simple he thought it was. to you, it has always made chris your chris, and it was one of your favorite things about him. your index finger traced little circles around it and you couldn't help but smile.
"i love your birthmark so much," you whispered to your boyfriend. he smirked, lifting his head from your stomach and meeting your eyes. "i don't even know why." you added, laughing softly.
"yeah?" he asked, giving you a big toothy smile. "i don't know why either, its a simple thing about me." he stated.
you sighed, even if you didn't understand why you loved his birthmark so much, you knew he would really never understand. you smiled back at him then lifted your hand and dragged your fingers through his thick, dark brown hair. "it's not simple to me." you replied.
he chuckled, leaning up and kissing you yet again. you kissed him back, cupping his face. "i love you, y/n." he spoke against your lips. you pressed your lips into his again, kissing him passionately. he pulled away seconds later then cuddled back into you, redirecting his attention back onto the movie.
"i love you too, baby." you spoke, returning to tracing patterns over his skin.
there were many things about your boyfriend that made him special to you, but a part of you always knew that his 'simple' birthmark will always mean something a little more to you, no matter how cringey it sounds. so, any time the boy takes off his shirt, you will continue to adore the mark on his lower back, returning to the same words that fall from your lips every time: "i love your birthmark".
