CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
CALL ME MAYBEa week later
el had over 100 unread messages, all from mike and another.
one person has been texting el non stop, but she didn't have their number saved. she assumed it was just a person who got the wrong number.
until she put two and two together and realized it was rebecca. who else would send her messages saying "you're a bitch" or "stay away from him."
it was safe to say that el felt like she overreacted. they weren't even dating and she threw a fit.
a part of her felt bad for doing all that, another part of her felt betrayed.
why was mike letting this all happen? why didn't he step up?
in el's mind she liked him, not in that 'he's my best friend' way.
she was lost in thought until she felt her phone vibrating. she eventually found it, she was eager to answer the call up until she saw who it was. "mr perfectly fine." the phone screen showed.
she debated on answering, but eventually it just went to a missed call.
she decided to just shrug it off. until once again, her phone was vibrating. "call from: mr perfectly fine. answer?" her phone read.
her eyes went wide. couldn't he get a hint? once again, she declined his call. but a second later, her phone starting reading off the same exact words. "call from: mr perfectly fine. answer?"
for the past 10 minutes she's been getting calls from him, and she keeps declining.
he seriously couldn't not take a hint! once again, she declined.
"i should just block him number!" she thought, in hopes it would work.
mid way as she was going to block him, he began calling again.
she pressed what she thought was the decline button, but instead she accidentally clicked accept.
"el?" his voice came through from the other side.
her eyes went wide, "shit, shit, shit!" she said a little too loud.
"a hi would've been nice." he said in a still voice.
"hello." el said firmly.
"so, uhm. are we just not gonna talk about it?" mike asked, truly el was curious. how would this talk go?
would he pull something like "please please forgive me for keeping things from you." or a "it's a you problem." sort of thing.
el didn't know, she's experienced both from past boyfriends. except mike wasn't her boyfriend and he probably doesn't even like her. to them, she was a toy that they had broken. over and over.
she responded in a flat voice, "about what?"
"i- well, uh, you know."
