"Do you like this one?" Mirae's father asks her standing in front of a four legged small cot that looks quite congested to her, but provided she is getting late for her college lecture she just nodded.

"Yeah dad, this one is better. Let's just finalize this one." She said checking her watch. "And clear the security deposit too, I gotta go!"

Her dad, who was checking the desk that was provided, mumbled, "Yep." He couldn't hear her muffled thank you.

Mirae had wanted to get into the Architecture department of Korea's top-most university ever since she had known what architecture meant. She had, for years, sacrificed everything that was a potential distraction to her. Television, internet, socialization, everything. It did not mean she was loner. Just like it did not mean that she got into the top-most university she wanted to get into. It meant that she was in a very good place, just not in the top one.

And provided that she had made a huge blunder that got her in bad terms with her department head since the first day, she could not risk another mistake from her part.

"My dream is to become a master architect who has studied from Korea's top-most university." She indeed attracted the attention of the professor who dozed off after asking the class of 2019 to introduce themselves in their first lecture.

"What was your name again, honey?" She asked Mirae. Mirae, who on the other hand was about to sit down after introducing herself, gulped.

"Mirae Jung, miss." She let out feebly from her desk which was situated right in front of the professor's desk.

The professor lowered her spectacles and spoke in a low spooky voice, looking straight through Mirae, "You plan on doing Post-grad after graduating from our university? Miss Jung?"

Mirae nodded to her question.

"Good luck with that." The professor stood up and leaned on the podium. "The backlog rate is quite high in this quote-unquote not the top-most university of Korea."

Just like that her luck with being approached by her fellow classmates was also ruled out by her professor who portrayed her as a ballistic missile in front of everyone. She still tried talking to one of the girls who was sitting alone. It turned out she was bunking her classes and not even from Mirae's batch.

It was just the first day, what would probably go wrong?

For some people, everything.

"Dude I had the worst first day anyone can ever have," She spewed on her mobile while tossing a french fry to her mouth sitting on the baseball field, watching the freshman baseball match. Since she made no attempt to befriend anyone in the first college week, she had become a loner, dialing up her sister everyday while having lunch.

Her younger sister on the receiver end said something about holding out until the very end till motives aren't achieved, but she could not hear anything because of all these chaos amongst the audience. She hung up the call and got up to leave when she saw a broad-masochist figure posing his stance, for he was the pitcher.

A strike!

As if the skillful strike was not enough, player number 11 turned around with the most handsome smile Mirae has ever seen. He was high-fiving his teammates, who were all fresh faces. The guy went on to have three strikes back-to-back before the batsmen could even realize the ball was coming.

"Who is he?" She murmured with a hint of elation on her face because the guy in front of her seemed to be the final and ultimate source of excitement in her college life.

"Kim Seungmin from Human Biology," Sinae, her roommate at her hostel said while marching around the room. "I saw him at the field today as well, and he was actually good. As a player too, he was good."

Mirae laughed while having her egg-curry and rice, seeing Sinae's antics unfold in front of her. She met her three hours ago in front of the hostel gate. Sinae was staying here since the first day of college. She was the one who showed her around and made an attempt to talk to her. So technically, Sinae was her first college friend.

And currently she was talking about how to get Mirae talk to her new crush, Seungmin.

"In this age, we should always start with an Instagram friend request." Sinae pointed at Mirae's mobile phone which was at the charging point.

Mirae laughed at Sinae's suggestion, "You really think he'll take my request? He doesn't even know me!"

Sinae nodded, "That's exactly why he'll take your request my darling, trust me."

Mirae shook her head, "Nah Sinae, it won't work. Let's just wait."

"What?" Sinae exasperated. "Wait? Wait for what exactly? Mirae. We met hours ago. Look at us now! You met him before you met me. Can't you imagine what would happen if you and him actually works out? You'll be college baseball star's respected girlfriend Jeon Mirae!"

Mirae chuckled loudly, "It's Jung Mirae."

~

"Jung Mirae."

"Present."

Prof. Shin adjusted her glasses, taking a sneaky look at Mirae. Her favorite student, as her classmates mockingly call it. "I see you've suited yourself quite well to our environment Ms. Jung."

She could only smile in response as she was done with the snickering remarks her professor made everytime she took roll calls. This remark especially came to her today since she was wearing her university's sweatshirt. Particularly because her other sweatshirts were soiled, but Prof. Shin didn't had to know that.

She wondered if she could tolerate Prof. Shin's bickering for three long years, because it has just been a month and she has been the most primary target of hers. Changing her seat from the first to the very last bench also did not change her attitude towards Mirae. She just had to remind her the embarrassing comment she made the first day that she desperately wanted to forget.

But she did have a motivation to attend Shin's class every Tuesday because she had to pass through the Human Biology department to enter the corridor towards whose end had the staircase that she'd use to go her class. There was most certainly a shortcut, but she was better with the long way. Taking the long way was more mentally, as well as physically cheap for her.

"My friend sent him a friend request two days back, and he accepted it today!" Sinae banged on the table Mirae was sitting on during lunch, catching her off-guard. "You keep eating and watching these animes and he'll already have a girlfriend by the time you even try to do something about your crush on him."

Mirae had her mouth stuffed with rolled eggs that her hostel mess packed for her so she could hardly say anything in retaliation.

"What!?" Sinae eyed her.

"Let .. m..e che....w...w..w." Mirae gulped down her food. "Okay come here," she tapped on the seat beside her. "Let's send him a request, shall we?"

Sinae snatched the phone from Mirae's hand and punched in Seungmin's username, that she had learnt by heart by then. "There you go."

"I am doing it, okay..." Mirae closed one of her eyes and was about to tap the blue button when she felt Sinae tugging on her shirt from beside. She looked at Sinae who was pointing towards the corner of the canteen.

The corner where Seungmin had a girl in his arms, and was kissing her.
