Me, Rizzo, Jim, and Gonzo sit on the back of a wagon, our cheeks covered in soot from the fire. A kind salesman had been generous enough to let us hitch a ride with him into London.I had nodded off about an hour ago, my head resting on Jims shoulder. I only awoke when Gonzo gave me a shove. I yawn and squint my eyes as they adjust to the light of the sun beating down on me. It takes me a second to realize where I am, and remember why I wasn't waking up in my bed at the inn. But as soon as I came to my senses, my eyes were wide with astonishment and wonder.
I stare in awe at my surroundings. My entire life has really only consisted of the inn and the surrounding 5 miles of the inn. So, needless to say, the bustling city was new to me. I take everything in, the smell, the old women at the side of the street selling baked potatoes, two finely dressed noblemen in deep conversation.
"Oh, what a night." Rizzo grumbles after yawning, also just waking up from a nap. I notice Jims eyes darting around the busy street as if he's looking for something. "There it is!" Jim hops off the wagon, me, Rizzo, and Gonzo soon following.
We approach a business built into the strip of brick shops. "Trelawney and Son, Master Ship Builders." Jim reads out the sign next to the door. Jim smiles and knocks at the door.
"Woah, woah! Reality check here, guys! Do we actually believe some bozo's gonna give us a ship just because we show him Captain Bones' map?" Rizzo challenged with an unsure tone.
"It's worth a try, Rizzo." Jim shrugs, I nod with agreement. Its not like we can go back home, so this is really our only option.
The door opens to reveal a finely dressed man who was about 50 years old. "May I help you?" His voice was hoarse and breathy, and he hunched over slightly when he stood.
"Yes. Thank you. We wish to speak with Squire Trelawney, the shop builder." Explains Jim, his voice full of uncertainty. "We need a ship," I finish.
"Ah, I'm sorry. The Squire's in Long Neddry for the grouse season." We all turn to each other, exchanging worried looks. "He will return on the feast of St. Lulu."
My shoulders slump and I mutter out a small "thank you," before we all turn away.
"Of course, his rich, half-wit son young Squire Trelawney's here." As soon as if left, it was back again. The sense of adventure filling my spirit. We all smile. "We'll see him, then."
We are led into the mans office before having a chair pulled pit for me. The room smells of parchment and ink. I observe the bear sitting at the other side of the desk. He wore a blonde powdered wig and a smile, his head seemed to be empty of thoughts by the way he looked at us. Jim lays out the map on the desk, stepping back to let the bear look at it. He wordlessly takes out a comically large magnifying glass. He takes a few minutes to look at in, and we all sit in a uncomfortable silence.
Finally, the bear speaks. "Well, this is definitely a genuine, bona fide treasure map." I smile and let out a sigh of relief. Rizzo and Gonzo let their mouths hang open while gawking with amazement. "Really?" Jim asks while leaning his elbows on the desk.
"Oh, yes. Mr. Bimbo told me so." The bear raises his pointer finger in the air, I furrow my eyebrows slightly and I look at him with confusion. "Mr. Bimbo?" I puzzled, the bear nods. "Oh, Mr. Bimbo lives in my finger. He's very smart. He's been to the moon."
I look at Jim, unsure if we should continue to try and work with this man. The bear looks back at his finger and puts it to his ear. "Thank you. Twice."
Rizzo leans over to us and speaks with a hushed volume. "I smell a bozo," we all nod.
Suddenly, a large crash sounds from behind us. I quickly turn my head, alarmed. A pink figure breaks through the wall and flies across the room, his head getting stuck in the opposite wall. A smaller green man peaks into the room, letting out chuckles of astonishment.
"Well done, Beakie." The green man says while entering the room. He blows at the fire lit at the end of a stick in his hand; what I'm assuming to be what lit the fire to cause the explosion.
"Now we know that is definitely too much gunpowder." The man speaks light heartedly. Almost as if his assistant didn't just crash through a wall. "Beaker, stop fooling around. We've got company." The pink skinny figure puts his hands to the wall his head is still stuck in, and pushed. His head making a 'pop' sound when it dislodged.
"Oh, hello, chappies. Everyone, this is Dr. Livesey and his assistant, Beaker." The pair join the bear on the other side of the desk. "They do research and development for my papa." They give a wave and a 'hello.'
"Actually, Squire, we were hoping to meet with your father. We need a ship for an ocean voyage." Jim explains, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the desk again. "Ocean? Ocean? Do you know the ocean?" The bear looks to his finger once again.
"Y'know, the ocean? Uh, the big, blue, wet thing?" Rizzo says, starting growing annoyed. The bear stares at us for a moment, searching his brain for what an ocean could be. "Oh! The big, blue, wet thing! Yes!" He nodded to himself, although it was clear he had no idea what we were talking about.
"Say, I know what's happening here. You kids are planning to sail to this island, aren't you? To dig up this treasure." His assistant nods and his mouth falls open.
Jim nods and lowers his voice to a whisper, "yes, but we must be quiet about it. There are pirates looking for this map." Gonzo leans in with a smile. "Yeah, and they wanna kill us for it, isn't that exciting?"
"Pirates, eh? Well, that settles it. We'll use one of my daddy's boats, and I will personally finance the voyage for the treasure myself." He nodded proudly. "You'll do that?" Jim asked with a smile. "Really?" I coaxed, turning to Gonzo and Rizzo to share looks of excitement. "Certainly. What are rich, half-wit sons for?"
