Chapter 28: The End of the Line

Raleigh and Clyde stood at the foot of a grave with the old man from the village. They both looked rather somber. It would seem Jason didn't make it out of that alive. It was painfully silent. Clyde spoke up to break it. "I know he did some bad things, but..." The old man cut him off. "I'd like to believe everyone knows that, but you can't fault them for not being OK with it nonetheless. Thank you two for your help." The old man looks toward the grave one last time paying some sort of respects before leaving them there. Raleigh looked down. "None of this had to happen." She said. Both of them mourn for the potential Jason that could have come from his willingness to repent. "Let's get going. I don't want a single person to be affected like this again." Clyde followed her not sure what to say but understanding her. It was less about Jason himself, and more about the consequences of being associated with her. All he could do is make sure he stayed with her. To prove that wrong.

They made their final jump making it to their destination at last. Hopefully, this doctor would fix everything. No more issues jumping from universe to universe, and no more Empire knowing exactly where they are. They looked around to see this universe had no earth, just an endless sky that seems to go on forever in every direction. There was no sun, but it was fairly bright, and there were giant floating cubes all over. They landed on one of the cubes got out and looked around. He looked down at the edge of the cube. His perception of gravity was greatly impaired just from looking. He almost fell off the side. "Well now what? How are we supposed to find this guy?" Clyde would ask. "Eh? That's a good question. This place seems to be void of life. I was expecting people to be around to point us his way or something." She said pacing and looking all around. "Where is that pervert when you actually need him? He's the one good at finding people." She said a little annoyed Loki didn't tell them about this.

They both look off the edge together brainstorming on what to do now. "Whatcha guy's doing." A woman asks appearing out of nowhere behind Raleigh. Raleigh almost falls off the edge startled by her not sensing her at all. She backs away from her ready for a fight. "Who the hell are you?" Raleigh says. The woman waves her arms trying to show she isn't a threat. She has tan skin, white hair put up in twin tails. She is pretty well-endowed. Her choice of clothing is a black t-shirt that shows a little of her belly, short shorts, glasses, and a white lab coat. "Calm down girly just asking what your business here is. This place isn't exactly possible to find unless you know exactly where it is." She says to her. Raleigh calms herself relaxing. "Well, our friend Loki said there was this guy that could help me here."

The woman somehow sneaks up on her again feeling around her body. "Hmm, you seem pretty healthy to me." The woman says as Raleigh pushes her away. "Thanks, but I think I'd like to Get The Physician's opinion," Raleigh says. The woman tilt's her head. "What do you mean I'm The Physician." Both Clyde and Raleigh look shocked. "I think Loki would've mentioned you were a woman considering he's him." He says. She smiles. "Well, I guess I was a man when we used to hang. I go by Lucy now." Both of them looked way more confused now. "Technology sure is amazing. I feel way more comfortable now than before." She says to them both. "But enough about me tell me about the problem already." She started to study Raleigh again getting close. Raleigh seems to have excepted after all there were stranger things out there in the multiverse. Clyde just wondered how many people would love to have access to whatever technology she used.

Raleigh was about to explain, but Lucy stopped her. "Let's head to the clinic." She sunk into the ground as a path of cubes formed for them to walk on. "Meet you there." She said before completely disappearing. They follow the path suddenly appearing in a doctor's waiting room. It seems to go on forever. They see the doctor was off in the distance walking toward her, but she vanishes. "Universal code?" Clyde asks. "No quite, but not a bad guess." The Physician says opening a door. "The Doctor will see you now." She walks into the door Clyde staying behind not sure if it's OK for him to go with her. She looks back at him. "It's alright." She motions for him to come with a slight head movement. He follows glad she has a little more trust in him now. They enter a normal-looking room that you might go to for a check-up. Clyde sits down on one of the chairs. "If you would please remove your hat, and coat." She says to the Captain. At first, she seems reluctant but removes them handing them over to Clyde to look after.
