The last bell of the day had just rung at Kimetsu Academy High School, the loud ringing echoed through the halls and made many ears ache in pain. "Alright then, class is dismissed!" their teacher called out before setting her papers onto her desk grabbing her purse, and sprinting out of the classroom, desperate to get away from the children she had to spend hours with. Everyone in the class got up and rushed out of the classroom, some even pushing each other down just to escape.
While in the back corner, a shy girl sat, finishing writing up her notes with her ink pen. She loved the way it looked when she sketched, the pen dancing around on her paper and the paper soaking up the words. A small smile curled onto her pink lips as she rested her chin in her palm, the golden glow of the sun glistening in her hair, leaving silver hints in the strands. To her surprise, she felt a sudden tap on her shoulder, which spooked her as she jumped and released a small wince. She turned her head around, only to see a bright boy with a jubilant smile painted on his face, it was her friend—as well as her secret crush—Tanjiro Kamado.
"Hi Kanao! I was wondering if you wanted to walk home with me?" he said, blinking at her excitedly. Kanao wasn't aware of this but Tanjiro shared the same feelings for Kanao as she did for him. He found her kind, sweet, and gentle like a blooming cherry blossom. He was frightened to confess his feelings for her though, she had such a rough past and he was worried that if anything went wrong in their relationship, it would ruin her mental state even more.
He blinked again, his eyes lingering down to the floor as he shyly scratched the nape of his neck. "Shinobu wasn't here today and you usually walk home with her... so I was just wondering if I could walk with you too? My home isn't that far!" he said, the boy had a cute expression on his face, and Kanao couldn't resist even if she tried. Her lips curled into an "o " shape, but then she couldn't help but smile as her cheeks reddened. "Yes," she replied meekly. Tanjiro immediately perked up with a joyful smile painted on his face.As Kanao packed away her stuff, they headed outside of the school, much later than everyone else. There was an awkward silence, as both were feeling shy. The wind breezed through their hair and made the leaves tremble before falling weakly to the ground. Kanao's side ponytail lifted up and breezed around beautifully, "The wind only makes her seem more beautiful." Tanjiro thought as his eyes lingered over her lovingly, taking in every detail of how perfect she was to him. However, she seemed to notice him staring at her, he quickly looked away. "Sorry— there was, a super cool bird behind you." he excused himself awkwardly, though he couldn't hide the red glow on his cheeks. Her expression shifted to a puzzled expression, "A super cool bird, I wish I saw the bird..." she thought, her head drooped down and her eyes lingered over the stone grounds of the gates of the school, analyzing every detail and counting the pebbles she'd come across. The impute girl spaced out as the breeze continued to swish her hair around, the sun painting golden tips into her hair. An awkward pause came over them both, Tanjiro's cheeks still glowing a crimson color as Kanao's mind drifted off to a new land, that was until Kanao's focus was thrown back to her when she tripped over the thin laces tangling around her sneakers, causing her to trip.
Thud
"Kanao - Chan, are you alright!?" shouted with fear shaking in his voice. Her body fell limply to the ground as if she were a rag-doll, she released a small squeak of pain, as she felt the stone scratch up her elbow, the skin tearing. He crouched down and reached out his hands for her to use as some sort of object to help herself up, his eyes lingered over her as he searched for any sort of injury she may have gotten, till' he saw the loose laces curling on the ground, his eyebrows drooped down a bit, the realization that the simple mistake could have been avoided if he had noticed earlier. A frown curled onto his lips, sadness written over his face.
She sat up, checking the scraped skin on her elbow as it faded to a reddish color, the red inky liquid dripping down her skin, oozing slowly like a teardrop. She tilted her head over to Tanjiro again, she noticed his dejected expression as his frown was incredibly noticeable, as if he was pouting. "Kanao - Chan, your shoes are untied," he commented, pointing his finger to the baby pink sneakers as her loose laces curled around like noodles. She blinked, the poor girl was almost overwhelmed. "Oh, I see." she spoke softly, her face quiet like the first few sprinkles of snowflakes in the early days of winter. The chirping of birds and trembling of the leaves were like a melody swinging through the air, interrupting the silence between the two. Tanjiro bit into his lip, "It's okay, would you like it if I tied them for you, Kanao - chan?" he asked her politely, his tone was gentle, signaling that if she didn't want him to he wouldn't help. That question however was a bit surprising, to say the least. Her eyes slightly widened, her cheeks pinkening rapidly as tiny strands flowed from the wind. She felt too shy to look him in the eyes, her head drooped, and she nodded. "Yes... I would appreciate that..." she mumbled, though it was clear to him, he smiled.
She shifted her legs forward and began to rest her arms on her legs. Tanjiro smiled again at her, he drooped his head down and tangled his fingers around the laces of her shoes, twirling them around one another gently, she could feel how he was trying to not her ruin her shoes, as well as trying not to tie them too tight and hurt her, he was being as gentle as he could with her and her possessions. When he was done, he pulled his hands away and smiled, shifting his head back up as his eyes twinkled with joy.
"There you go!" he cheered, he stretched his legs back up and reached his arm out, his hand blossoming for her to grab. She looked up, her cheeks still pink. She slowly reached her arm up, their hands interlocked and he pulled her. Their eyes locked, their pupils staring into one another as their souls met, falling in love. He shook his head, beginning to feel shy. He looked down at her gently, "I'll walk you home now, Shinobu - Senpai will get worried of you're gone for to long!" Tanjiro stated, which would be true. All though Shinobu hadn't walked home with Kanao she would obviously still be concerned for her, not to mention the fact that she thought Kanao would walk home alone, which would be dangerous. Kanao sensed the purity of Tanjiro's soul, the kindness and care he displayed for her. Her lips curled into a smile, a genuine one as the light twinkled in her eyes. She nodded. "Yes." she agreed. She felt him shift, beginning to watch, as their hands stayed interlocked.
She was a bit surprised by the fact he hadn't let go of her hand, but his hands were warm... soft, and gentle, she didn't want to let go at all. His hands were plush and full of care, his hands gentle towards her delicate ones. She trailed behind him like a puppy, a tiny smile displayed on her face as she couldn't help but love her best friend. It was as if their souls were tangled, like the laces to her shoes.
.
He walked her home safely :3
