Mireli-bolded
Cami-underlinedMireli's pov
"I'm scared." Kaleb whined as we hid in the downstairs closet. I was scared too. But I couldn't tell him that. I had to be strong for him. He was all I had left. Our parents were gone. So I had to be the one to care for him.
"Shhhh. it's going to be okay. Just endure it a little longer"
"I want mommy " he said as he let out a little whine. "I know, I want her too." I said as I held him tighter.
Our breathing spiked as we heard thundering boots walking towards our way
There was this burning sage smell coming from outside the door, my guess being that it was the hunters' scent
I put my hand over Kaleb's mouth so he wouldn't make any noise. He was still young being 3 years old. I couldn't risk him blowing our cover.
We were tense as we waited for the hunter to move past us. Kaleb started to whine again. The hunter must've heard him, causing him to put his hand on the door nob getting ready to turn it, but before he could someone entered the room distracting him from his task.
"Hey!" He yelled."You're supposed to be up here with the rest of us!"
"I was just checking down here to make sure nothing slipped past us." He said as he took his hand off the door nob.
"Well that's great, but enough checking for right now Axel wants us up here."
We heard his footsteps lead upstairs as he left.
I slowly lowered my hand from Kaleb's mouth. I let out a shaky breath as I was able to relax a little bit now that he was gone.
I hugged Kaleb tightly to my chest as I got out the closet. Making sure not to move too fast.
I fully stood up and rocked Kaleb back and forth to calm him down from crying.
"Okay Kaleb we need to get out of here. But I can't do that if you keep crying." I said as I bounced him up and down in my arms.
He stopped crying immediately.
I looked at him to fully make sure he stopped crying. Once that was confirmed I put him down so I could find a way out of here. I spotted a window at the far corner opposite of the closet. I went towards it to see if there were more hunters outside.
I unlocked it and held Kaleb as I climed out the window. It wasn't that high of a jump if you ask me. I landed pretty swiftly on my feet considering I'm part of the Feline family.
I got up from my crouching position and looked to see if I haven't been spotted.
As I quietly walked towards the woods I could see my mom laying dead in the middle of the field naked with her throat slit. My father was no where to be seen. But I couldn't dwell on that now
I covered kalebs eyes and tried my best not to cry in front of him.
I didn't want to continue staying here and stare at her lifeless body any longer so I picked up the pace.
I put Kaleb on my back and made sure that he was tightly secured.
I picked up my pace as I ran through the woods at full speed. Not stopping and Not looking at back.
When I was far enough away, I stopped at a steady stream. Realizing now that I was quite parched. I went to put Kaleb down to get a drink of water, when suddenly I felt a slight sting on the side of my neck.
I reached up only to feel that it was a tranquilizer laced with pure mercury.
I began to feel dizzy. I grabbed a hold of Kaleb to make sure he was by my side.
