Logan leads the way to the border, where Josh's army is waiting, Bella firmly secured to his saddle by a rope and following behind on foot. They have been traveling for a full day already, non stop, and Bella would kill for a drink of water, but she won't give her father the satisfaction.
She looks up at Amara, the woman sitting on a horse next to Logan, and notices that she has some bruising on her face that is badly concealed by makeup. "That's how he knew.", she thinks, just as Amara looks back at her, a sad and apologetic look on her face.
Bella nods at her, knowing just how brutal her father can be, and is actually surprised he didn't kill Amara for helping Bella. But maybe he doesn't know. Maybe all she told him was that she had asked Bella to keep Ethan safe, nothing else. If that's the case, then Bella needs to act surprised when Logan tells her about Alexander.

Her father's war camp is just as she remembers, tents spread around evenly, with the war tent almost to the middle of the camp, and small fires here and there to keep the soldiers warm and so they can heat their food.
Bella is released from the saddle and taken to a very familiar cage in the back of the camp, thrown inside roughly before the door slams shut. She sits back in the cage and shakes her head, memories of the last time she was in one of them flooding back, tears beginning to form in her eyes.
Footsteps approach and she pushes the tears away before looking for the person to whom they belong. A guard approaches her cage with a water skin in his hand.
He offers her the water skin, Bella thanking him before taking a large sip from it. The man looks around, as if looking for something, and when he is sure of whatever he is looking for, he speaks.
-"The Devil is close."
Bella stops drinking, looks at him and nods, handing him the water skin back and watches him leave, as if he hadn't said anything. A smile that Bella can't stop reaches her lips, as the thought of Henry being close start to lessen her worries just enough for her to feel her strength coming back.
She looks up at the night sky and sends up a prayer that this will be over soon.
