A Growing Family

Chapter 7

Previously on AGF: "Are you saying that Kate is pregnant with six babies?" Martha asked Dr. Caldwell. Dr. Caldwell nodded. With that, Martha proceeded to faint. "Martha!" Kate yelled, just as her husband yelled "Mother!" and her daughter yelled "Gram!".

Dr. Caldwell stayed calm. "We see this a lot. The shock of a pregnancy to a family member makes them faint sometimes. Let me go get a wet rag," she said, walking out of the exam room. Her state of calmness made everyone else remain a little calmer, but only just. After about 20 seconds, Martha started to wake up. Alexis was the first to notice.

"Gram!" She exclaimed, drawing the attention of her parents and the doctor who had began to walk in the room. "I'm alright, darlings, really. Just let me get up and let's continue seeing my grandchildren," Martha said as she started to get up. "Not so fast. Put this on your head and sit in that chair," Dr. Caldwell instructed. Martha followed instructions. After a minute, Dr. Caldwell spoke again. "I think you're alright now. Let's continue the ultrasound now, shall we?" The whole family nodded.

She put more gel on the ultrasound wand and began moving it around on Kate's stomach once again. "So it looks like you are about 8 weeks along. I will see you next week!" With that, she smiled and walked out of the room, giving Kate a moment to get ready and the family a moment to gather their thoughts.

No one spoke. The whole family was still lost in their own thoughts. Although Alexis and her parents had already known that Kate was expecting sextuplets, it still hadn't sunk in yet. Martha, however, couldn't wrap her mind around what she had just learned. After a few minutes, the couple realized at the same time that they needed to leave so the room could be used.

"We should probably go," the couple said at the same time. The two redheads just smiled. Their brain thing had never changed. The family gathered their things and left.

When they arrived at the loft, Martha announced that she had a class to go teach, grabbed her bad with her theater things, and left as quickly as the family had walked in. With a chuckle, Castle asked his family what they wanted for lunch. It was then that Kate realized how hungry she and her children were. And what crazy thing they were hungry for.

"You're going to think I'm crazy," she started, knowing what grief her husband and daughter might give her for her voice of food. "I could never," her husband answered with a playful smirk. "I want a smorelette. I know I said I thought they were gross that one time you tried to make me eat them, but now that damn thing is all I can think about," Kate said. "Ew, really Kate?" Alexis asked with disgust on her face. "What can I say? The babies want what the babies want," she said with a shake of her head. "I just want a sandwich, I'm not really hungry," Alexis said, still disgusted at what her stepmother had asked for. "I would be glad to make those for you too," Castle said as he started to make his family their meals. After their meals, they decided to go shop, and spend the day together as a family, something enjoyed by all of them.
