A Growing Family Chapter 14

The couple walked out of the doctors office feeling like they were on top of the world. They were having three girls and three boys. They couldn't be more happier. They knew that they had to tell their friends soon. They just didn't know how.

"We should just tell them tonight," Castle said. "Tonight? It's 6:30. What, are we going to give them a 45 minute notice?" Kate asked with a laugh. "Why not?" Castle asked back. Kate looked at him for a minute, scrutinizing his idea. She finally nodded. The writer quickly pulled out his phone and began to type out a mass text to Martha, Jim, Alexis, the Espositos, and the Ryans.

'Meet us @ Old Haunt in 45 to find out the genders or wait until they are born'

They snickered and got into their car, driving toward their favorite bar.

When they arrived at the bar 30 minutes later, Rick and Kate were shocked and amused at the group waiting in their favorite booth. Rick ordered a scotch for himself and a water for his wife while she say down before sitting down himself. Kate began guzzling the fried pickles at the table. "I'm sure they'll be serving food tomorrow," Ryan said with a laugh. Kate glared at him, and he visibly shrank down.

"So... are you going to tell us or what?" Lanie asked breathlessly. "I think we should wait for the drinks," Rick teased. "Seriously, Dad! You force us all down here on short notice to tell us the genders then you want to wait for drinks?" Alexis asked her father loudly.

The couple smiled at each other. "We're having three of each!" They said in unison. The booth erupted. Lanie, Alexis, and Jenny both almost tackled Kate in a hug. Martha was clapping and grinning. Ryan and Esposito were clapping Rick on the back. Jim was just smiling.

Once the group sat down, everyone but the couple pulled out wallets. Money was passed around the table, some smiling as they received it and some frowning as they gave it.

"You guys seriously bet on our children?" Kate asked with a suppressed grin. "We bet on everything you guys do. Did you seriously think we weren't gonna bet on this?" Esposito asked back. They all laughed, and started a conversation. The group laughed and talked all night

The couple was extremely happy. But happy times don't last forever.

A few weeks after they had told their friends and family the genders of their babies, Rick and Kate were jolted awake at 2:00 in the morning by the shrill sound of Kate's cell phone.

"Beckett," Kate answered out of habit. "Kate you gotta get down to Lenox Hill Hospital," Lanie said in a rushed voice. Kate went pale. She got the details and hung up, springing out of bed as fast as a 22 week pregnant woman could to get ready. Castle, having barely heard the conversation, asked sleepily, "What's wrong?" "Ryan and Esposito have been shot." The writer sprang up, putting on the first clothes he saw.
