A Growing Family Chapter 8

10 Weeks Along

When Kate Beckett woke up one Wednesday morning, she expected nothing more than to go about her normal morning routine before work. She planned on waking up, getting ready, taking one step into the kitchen, turning tail back into her bathroom for her children to protest the smell of whatever her husband was making in the kitchen, regain her composure, then join her family in the kitchen once more. Only, today, something special would happen that would put a hitch in her routine.

She woke up to her husband's side of the bed empty. She reached out to touch the side where he sleeps, only to find the sheets cold. She went to his office that is connected to their bedroom, finding him writing away. She walked up behind him and put her arm around his shoulders.

"Good morning, my love," he greeted as he saved his document and shut down his computer, turning around to kiss his wife good morning. "Hey," she returned. "How are you feeling this morning? Are the babies protesting yet?" Castle asked. "Not yet, but that could be because they have nothing to protest yet," she answered with a teasing smirk. "Then I had better get going so we can get on with our morning," Castle said getting up to make breakfast. Walking out of the door with a shout of "To the kitchen!" and a point towards that exact place like a soldier on a mission, he went to make his family breakfast. Kate just laughed. After a moment, she got up. With a groan, already dreading today's bout with morning sickness, Kate started to walk to the bathroom to take her morning shower.

She turned on the water and was about to get ready for her shower. Before she could do anything else, however, she noticed something that had to have happened during the night because it was not there the night before. She almost squealed in delight. She had to get Rick. "Castle!" She yelled excitedly. He must have not heard it as excitingly as she had said it because she heard him drop whatever he was doing, start running to their bathroom connected to their bedroom, stub his toe on the leg of the bed, and hop into their bathroom. Kate couldn't do anything but laugh. "You get here alright?" She asked with a smirk. "Are you ok? What's wrong?" Her husband asked breathlessly. "I'm fine, I just thought I would show you this," she answered.

After she said that she pulled her sleep shirt tight against her stomach. To most people, it would appear that Kate Beckett just ate large breakfast. However, to the couple it was immediately obvious that she had started showing. "Yayayayayayayayay!!!!" Castle yelled like a teenage girl. This just made his wife laugh especially hard at her nine-year-old on a sugar rush. Rick continued jumping up and down, which only made Kate laugh harder. After a moment, he settled. His wife took this moment to pull him in for a kiss.

When they pulled apart, Rick then sat on his knees on the bathroom. "What are you-" Kate started. "Shhhh," her husband cut her off. He then began talking to his wife's barely perturbing belly. "Hey babies! It's your daddy. I just wanted to tell all of you that your mommy and I love you so much! We can't wait for you to be here!" Kate just smiled. Leave it to Rick to be a sap. After that, he left Kate to get ready.

When the pair got to the precinct, they were greeted by none other than Ryan and Esposito. They both shared a look, realizing they hadn't told the two, or Lanie and Jenny, about the babies. Given that she had started showing that morning they knew that they couldn't keep the secret for much longer, especially since she would show much faster than normal pregnancies since she had six babies inside her, not just one.

"Hey guys. Do you guys want to invite your wives and go to the Old Haunt tonight? 6:30?" Castle asked. He figured that they could tell their friends about the babies tonight. By the look Kate gave him, he could tell that she had been thinking the same thing. He could also tell that they needed to tell her dad. "Sure. Jenny would love to see everyone. She hasn't been out much since Sarah Grace was born." Ryan answered. Their daughter, Sarah Grace, had just turned one. "Yeah, I'll tell Lanie." Esposito and Lanie had gotten married three months earlier.

With that, the three detectives walked to their desks and Castle to his seat beside Beckett's desk, ready to start the day.

=======

Since the people of New York City had decided to be nice that day and not kill anyone in the Twelfth Precinct's jurisdiction, everyone got off of work at 5:00. With goodbyes and see you laters, everyone headed off to their respective places to get ready for dinner. When the two Castles got back to their loft, they decided it would be the perfect time to video chat Kate's father and tell him about the babies. He was on a business conference for the week and was in California. They would have waited until he got back, but they just couldn't hold in the secret any longer. So, Kate sat on the couch while Rick got his laptop. He then sat beside his wife and pulled up Skype. Jim's name was selected, and the couple waited. After a few seconds, they saw a familiar face.

"Katie! Rick! This is a surprise!" Jim said happily. "Well Dad, we had something that we wanted to tell you. I'm pregnant!" Kate said, unable to keep it in any longer. "What? That's fantastic Katie!" Jim said in delight. "There's actually something more, Jim," Castle said. "Kate's expecting sextuplets." Jim's jaw dropped. "What? Six babies? You're gonna have a full house!" Jim exclaimed. The couple laughed. "We're really excited!" Kate said. The family chatted for another minute, before Castle realized that they needed to get ready to go to the Old Haunt.

"Well, we need to get going. We have dinner plans," Castle said. "You two have fun. Take care of my grandkids!" Jim answered. "We will, Dad," Kate answered. They shared their goodbyes, then Castle signed off. He then shut down his computer, and walked with his wife to get ready.

A/N: That felt like a good place to stop that chapter. The next chapter will have them telling their friends. This chapter honestly probably sucks. I got my tonsils out in the middle of writing this chapter, and I've been a little out of whack because of the medicine I was put on. Then I hemorrhaged and had to have another surgery to stop the bleeding. So if this chapter is poorly written and makes no sense, blame medicine. Enjoy!
