Y/n's Pov:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fast breaths exit my mouth, heavy and short. I will myself to keep running even though my legs resemble blocks of lead and my chest is screaming at me to stop and take a break. I don't understand what's wrong with me today, usually by this time I'd be perfectly capable of running for another hour at minimum.
I've been a runner for a year, it took me 8 months of training for Minho, the "keeper of the runners" to even contemplate giving me the job.
It's dangerous no doubt, the minute those doors open, you go out exploring the vast intricate maze, mapping out the area and looking for any clue of a way out. But you have to be fast, 'cause if those maze doors close, you never come back out.
"Hey moody, you doing alright there?" Minho inquires noticing my slowing pace and heavy breaths.
Minho adopted the nickname moody for me ever since I got the job as the greenie greeter. Probably because I seem really sweet and comforting to the greenies upfront to calm their nerves, but once my job is done, I admit I am usually become quite snappy towards them.
Honestly, I'm just frustrated most of the time, which causes my mood to switch often.
I wonder why? Oh, probably because I'm a teenage girl in the middle of puberty, with strictly guys around me, stuck in a maze with seemingly no way out.
I just feel like no one fully understands me.
Which is why I hate the nickname. It literally proves that no one understands me, they just label me as moody or emotional since I'm a girl with feelings.
"I told you to stop calling me that, shuck face." I manage to breath out-
"but, I'm fine. Don't worry, lets keep going, we have to finish section 5 today." I continue running despite my exhaustion. I can't add weak on top of moody and emotional.
"Alright if you say so. But we'll stop soon, my hair keeps getting messed up by the wind and going in my eyes. Can you give me a haircut soon?" He says swatting his hand over his forehead attempting to get the hair out his field of vision.
Oh yeah, and I have somehow become the glades barber. Don't ask how that happened.
"Yeah, sure. I'll give you one- " I can't talk anymore. My chest is heaving. My throat so dry it physically hurts to inhale, a cramp is stinging at my side, and my vision in tunneled. A nauseous feeling creeps its way into my stomach, my mouth starting to water. I panic for a moment.
I really don't feel like vomiting today.
I abruptly stop running, quickly seating my back against one of the many concrete walls of the maze, angling my head upwards, I begin take large greedy breaths of air, hoping my vision will soon return to normal and my nausea will subside.
Minho quickly realizes I'm not by his side anymore and comes running back towards me. He crouches down and gazes at me with wide eyes and a worried expression.
"Y/n, you okay? Want some water? Here-" He frantically rumbles through his small nap-sac pulling out a clear container of water and pushing it into my hands.
I take it and unscrew the cap, taking small sips as to make myself avoid throwing up, eventually after a few minutes I feel better. Minho is at my side rubbing his hand comfortingly up and down my arm.
