Chapter 5 Edited

Kate's P.O.V.

I went over to Bella's house to introduce myself. I didn't want to scare her, but I was aware that a golden eyed vampire knocking on her door might freak her out.

I raised my hand to knock but hesitated, I caught the sound of a slightly heated conversation. She was telling her dad about how Edward dumped her, but what really got my attention was that she said she wasn't going to mope around about it. I giggled when I heard her dad say he wanted to kill him. I would love to see that. I could practically see the anger on his face without even having to look. I knocked hoping it would be Bella that opened the door.

"Umm, hi. Can I help you?'' she asked, with a very surprised look on her face.

God, she sounded like an angel, "Hello, I'm Kate, Edward's cousin. I was wondering if I could talk to you," I asked, truly curious about whether she'd agree or not.

"Umm, actually I don't have time right now. I was just about to head out I have to go pick up my friends, they're expecting me. Maybe tomorrow?" Bella suggested, chewing on her bottom lip.

She sounded like a rack of nerves.

"Okay, tomorrow then. Oh, just so you know, Alice sent me to make sure you're safe. My family's also here. I just didn't want you to get spooked if you saw us around."

That seemed to give her pause, she visually relaxed just a little. Maybe it was because it was Alice she was here for and not Edward.

"Okay, thanks. I guess, come to my room later tonight so we can talk?" She asked, changing her mind.

"I won't, until you will ask me in."

Bella's P.O.V.

I closed the door and slowly walked back to the kitchen, puzzling over what had just happened. Had Alice really sent this vampire to watch over me? Had she had a vision? Was I in danger? Or had Edward sent her to spy on me?

Dad was placing his plate in the sink when I entered the kitchen. "Dad I'm going to eat mine later. I gotta go or I'll be late to meet my friends. I'll see you when I get back, and don't worry about the dishes I'll get them later.''

"Okay, have fun Bells, I'm just gonna catch a game on T.V,'' he said, waving me off as he headed to the recliner.

"Will do dad," I said, on the way out the front door.

I picked up Angela then headed over to Jessica's.

"Whoa Bella, nice ride,'' Jess said, as she climbed into the back seat.

"Thanks,'' I responded.

Everything was going great at first. We gossiped a little bit about people at school and sang along to the radio, but of course Jess had to open her big mouth eventually.

"So, Bella, why'd you and Edward break up?" Jessica pried.

"Edward said it was over. They left, end of story. It hurts, but Edward said they won't be back. So, I might as well try to get over it and have a normal life. Can we talk about something else now," I replied, with shrug trying not to get annoyed.
