Hadley had been in ambulances before. For instance when she was diagnosed with hemophilia. This experience however was so much worse.
What if she never danced again? What if she missed Nationals again? What if she disappoints her team? Will she be kicked off? What's going to happen-
"Honey, take a deep breathe" Mary said, putting a hand on her daughters knee, trying to soothe her.
The eight year old was sitting up in a hospital bed, a pained expression on her face. Her legs were shaking but she couldn't feel anything because of the medication she was given.
She did a few tests do make sure there was no brain or spine damage, which there wasn't, thank God. But, she still hadn't gotten an x-ray.
"I already called Miss Abby and she's worried about you sweetie. She's not upset or angry what so ever" Mary reassured, seeing her daughters face. "I hate seeing you like this"
Hadley sniffled. "I'm sorry." She mumbled.
A light knock came from the door and a blonde nurse walked in. "Hi sweetheart, I'm Naomi and I'm gonna bring you down to x-ray. Is that ok?" She asked Hadley.
The eight year old shrugged and nodded. "Ok"
"Alrighty, I'm going to have you sit in this wheelchair so I can wheel you down"
Hadley looked up at her then at the wheelchair. "A wheelchair? Do I need it?"
Mary shook her head. "Hadley, they know what they're doing babe. I'm sorry" She said to the doctor.
Naomi smiled. "That's ok" She told Mary. "It's just a protocol we have to follow. I'm sure you're tough enough to walk their by yourself, but we just don't want to risk you getting hurt" She explained.
Hadley nodded and slide into the wheelchair. She still had on her dance comp jacket and tights, but her costume was gone.
She was wheeled into the x-ray room, that was very dark and intimidating. Naomi had Hadley lay flat on a table and turned her ankle in awkward ways. Hadley winced at most of the movements.
"Can you stay just like that for me? I'm gonna say 3,2,1 and you're gonna smile big for the camera, all right?" She asked in a soothing voice.
Hadley let out a long breath and nodded. "Ok"
"Ready? 3, 2, 1, smile big!" She said. Hadley didn't smile. She couldn't bring herself to do it until she knew she was clear to dance again.
After about ten minutes, she was brought back to their room in the wheelchair. She hopped back up onto the bed using her arm strength.
"Those are going to take about an hour or so. I would advise you both stay here to receive the results because we don't know how serious this injury is yet, again just protocol" She reassured. "I'll be back with those in a bit" She smiled, before exiting the room.
