Everleigh
"Tångina, be, totoo?"
"Oo nga, hindi rin ako mapaniwala." Naiiling kong sabi. The smell of peach from my third Margarita of the night whiffed my nose.
Kasalukuyan kaming nakaupo dit sa ilalim ng hut with a table. We met by this beach bar, four miles away from my house. The sound of people chattering and soft waves of the Malibu beach filled my ears. I could feel the sand shifting under the sole of my sandals. The warm wind blew on my skin and goosebumps broke all over my body. Maybe it wasn't so smart that I wore clothes that covered me less. My top was a white halter neck top, giving me a generous amount of cleavage. A golden necklace dangled in between complimenting my temporary tan.
Caelan was being caveman about it before he dropped me off. He didn't like how deep the cleavage was. He was glaring at me while I was getting ready and putting my makeup on. He was looking at the tanlines seeping through the thin border of my top.
And so I negotiated with him, I told him I wouldn't wear a short skirt with it, so I settled with a
white maxi skirt and a pair of Birkenstocks. I also put my hair in a claw clip and put on some golden earrings and two rings.
He let me go but was still not happy also because I was covering my hickeys with the foundation, still. It's not like anybody will have the nerve to hit on me, his security guys are around me like I'm the freaking president. They all have their own tables, this time they took the time to blend it since naka-beach attire silang lahat.
"I have nothing against him, but dåmn. I had to find out against my will. I knew something was not right when I was with him because he was giving me the same vibes as Tommy does." I said and took a sip of my drink. "But then again, who am I to know since it seems like he's sleeping with the drop-dead gorgeous nurse he said he "hates"."
She giggled. The wind blew on Cheri's short hair. The silver hoop earrings on her earlobes, matched her Boho themed tube top with side slit skirt.
"I was gonna say mahaba ang buhok mo. You had this billionaire and the French heir fighting for you." She said and then took the olive from her dirty martini and popped it in her mouth. "I mean for what it's worth, your hair is still long. That billionaire is something else."
"He's not my man."
"When are you gonna stop denying it?"
"I'm not denying anything."
She gave me a look.
"If I walk into your house right now and try to blatantly flirt with your baby daddy right now, will you allow me to?" She cocked her left eyebrow, her brown eyes watchful.
"I have a pink glock, Cheri."
She threw her head back and laughed.
"See!" She gestured to me.
"Fine, okay. You prove your point." I sighed and took a big gulp of my drink. I gestured for the waiter to give me another drink.
"Then what is happening? Just get on with it, every time I see that man, he looks at you like he's a dehydrated person looking at the Oasis."
"Jeez. You should be the writing professor and not me."
"This is what I get for hanging out with you. Who knows, maybe I'll get a copy of your dissertation too." She chuckled. Napailing naman ako sa kanya.
I thanked the waiter when he served my drink. I stirred the already well-blended peach margarita with the straw that came with it.
"I know that he told me the truth and I believe it." Seryoso kong sabi at napasandal sa aking upuan. "I am not getting any younger and maybe I shouldn't make him wait but I am still afraid. There is still that reservation in me. Don't get me wrong, he's the best father. But
