The first cross between a human and an animal was born. Without the attention of the whole world. In a cold abandoned lab facility with only the warmth of the trembling hands that held it desperately, protecting it like a treasure. A baby boy; a half beastman born with the ears and tail of a wolf, the rest being parts of a normal human He could hide his 'monstrous' features. His ears could be hidden so could his tail be. Since genes had failed to create the instinct of an animal during the mutation so he was more of a human than an animal. A human with just a different appearance.
But......difference is not always accepted, is it?
He wasn't welcomed. His existence wasn't needed. That he only came to know when his 'mother' had desperately apologized to him in tears. A lab created him. He was not nourished in the comfortable womb of a birth mother. He was a product of curiosity and experiment. However, the lab was then destroyed due to his unexpected mutation into a half beastman. He was not even a desired product, let alone being considered a living creature, breathing air and bleeding red.
He didn't know what he should feel about his existence. Who knows why his 'mother' raised him? Maybe out of pity.....or maybe just the insistence on keeping her hard work. That.....was fairly different from a mother's love. But, he didn't know so he didn't hurt. Ignorance was really bliss.
He lived among humans though; in a secluded countryside with the typical population of about a hundred. A rather evergreen area, crowded with trees of various kinds as well as animals of various species. The morning's bird song, the night's cricket cry, and the flowing sound of river water that never ceased; the region had nature, its beauty and peace. For education, his 'mother' taught him basics while being home tutored for the rest.
It was finally his freshman year at high school. He had total control over his 'special' features. His hair had grown shoulder length to hide his sides of head that were deprived of ears. Except for his eyes that would glow a ferocious gold when he was agitated, he was as good as a normal human. Named Adal, he was a fine young special beastman starting his high school life.
Dreaming of a normal school he seemed to have forgotten his identity. All hopes and expectations were broken one fine spring day.
"Ahhhh!!! Save me!!! It's a monster!!!!!"
He had accidentally let his ears out. It was the end of his normalcy.
He remembered that terrified scream. It seemed to be screaming at him to wake him up from his delusions. 'Monster'. Of course that's all he would be reduced to once his difference was known. Who would see his perfect scores? Princely appearance would not help. That day he saw all those who had kindly approached and got along with him look at him like he was the most horrible existence ever seen.
Many were looking at him curiously. Many were disgusted while some directly attacked him. In his shock, he had forgotten to escape. Foolish as he was, he tried hiding his ears anxiously but only made his golden pupils appear on his frantic self. No one dared approach him with those eyes threatening to rip them apart. Everyone was terrified around him. They all just wanted him to disappear.
What was his fault? Being born. Being born with a difference that was not for a human's narrow mindedness to ever accept.
They had attacked him brutally. With blood flowing from each and every part of his body, he had dragged his injured body towards the forest behind his school. His ears had suffered cuts and his tail was heavily injured with the gray fur dyed red. His whole body had bruises and wounds that hurt so much that he couldn't help thinking that just getting killed was better.
The torture was still not over. The news of his appearance had spread across the whole region. Someone even knew that he had escaped to the forest of the hills behind his school area. Then the whole hill was set into fire. Adal had still been resting under a tree covered by the shadows of a forest night. Seeing the blazing fire around him that was spreading through the whole area, he couldn't help smiling. Ah... he wasn't the only one perishing for being different. Even the trees weren't taken as living and could be burnt at will. He was still better. At least a monster that was considered alive. He didn't mind dying in that fire. With his will towards life tarnished ruthlessly, he had no wish to strive and live. He lost consciousness from the increasing smoke and suffocation. He hoped he didn't ever wake up after that......
