Chapter 23: Try My Best (EchoPaws PoV)

I looked all around me, as it had been such a long time. Ever since it was that my father had shown me our land. When it was that we had gone on top of the two leg roof.
Now that I was a bit older, things seemed to be smaller. But it didn't make anything any less beautiful. As I did in fact go and speak to myself out loud as it was like so.
"I couldn't imagine being a kittypet... How could you miss out on something like this?" I did in fact just seem to say, all of the sudden.
As it was that I had said as to just what I had said. I then saw my mentor TreeTooth go and look at me. As his eyes were wide just as he then began to speak back to me.
"Some cats feel more comfortable in the safety of a two leg place... They are lazy and don't want to live an actual life out in the wild..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at once.
As it was that he had a bit of a sad look on his face. Just as soon as it was that he had said that to me. As it did in fact kind of surprise me as to just what he had said.
I blinked my eyes just a few times all of the sudden. As I then did in fact also go and shake my head. Just as it was that I did in fact go and speak back to him as well.
"That is really such a shame... I wonder if they truly know what they are missing out on..." I did in fact just seem to say to myself, all at the exact same time too.
As I did in fact go and look up at the sky just as it was like so. As it was that I did in fact do my best to stay calm. As he once again began to start to speak back to me.
"Well... Some other kittypets aren't left with much of a choice... They are born as a kittypet and don't ever get to live an actual life..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at once.
As he did in fact seem to know a lot about those kind of cats. As I knew that I had heard a bit of his story from my mother. But I hadn't asked him to go into any further detail.
I did in fact do my best to try to stay calm as it was like so. As I did in fact kind of feel bad for cats like that. Just as I then let out a rough sigh and spoke back to TreeTooth.
"That is kind of sad... I really don't like two legs..." I did in fact just seem to say, all at once. As I did in fact go and squint my eyes at the dirt that was below me as I had said that.
TreeTooth then did in fact seem to have his eyes grow wide. As to the fact that I had in fact said that. As it seemed like he didn't agree with what it was that I had said.
He then did in fact go and blink his eyes just a few times. As he did in fact also go and let out a rough sigh too. Just as he once again seemed to go and speak back to me.
"Well... They aren't all that bad... They just, they aren't like cats, so they don't understand things like we do..." He did in fact just seem to say, all of the sudden.
As it was that I was not all too sure why he was defending them. As it was that I wondered if it was because he lived in an old two leg nest. As I wondered if he was fed by them like the kittypets were, at that.
As I just seemed to think on that for a bit more time. I then did in fact go and shake my head back at the tom. As I did in fact go and start to speak back to him once again.
"I'm not so sure about that... But I guess so I suppose..." I did in fact just seem to say, all at once. As it was that I did in fact go and lower my head to the ground, all at once.
As it was that I once again did in fact seem to stare below. He then did in fact once again let out a rough sigh. As he did in fact go and speak back to me one more time.
"Well... I don't think we should be talking about two legs... I think we should be talking about how you need to hunt for rabbits..." He did in fact just seem to say to me.
As it was that he did in fact go and nod his head in front of me. Just as soon as it was that he had said that. As it was that I did in fact go and have my eyes grow wide as it was like so.
I did in fact remember as to just what we had come here to do. As I then did in fact go and start to nod my head back to my mentor. Just as I did in fact go and speak back to him as well.
"Right... What was it that you were going to show me again?" I did in fact just seem to say, all at once. As it was that I did in fact have my eyes wide just as soon as I had said that.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been like so. That was when it was that I then began to move. As it was that I did in fact go and walk with my mentor, at that.
He did in fact now seem to have a smile on his face. Now that it was that we had in fact got back on track. As to just what it was that we had come here to do in the first place.
As it was that he did in fact go and start to look ahead. He then did in fact go and start to speak to me quietly. As I then did in fact go and listen as to just what he had to say.
"Your mother taught me how to hunt for these rabbits well... They are big, and they are tricky to take down, especially for a younger cat like yourself..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at once.
As it was that he had said as to just what he had said to me. He then did in fact go and start to nod his head. As it was that he did in fact go and look at a rabbit that was not too far away from us.
As it was that I did in fact also go and look at it myself. I then did in fact go and blink my eyes a few times. Just as it was that I then did in fact go and nod my head, just as it was that I then spoke back to him.
"Right... And how exactly is it that I catch this? I feel like rabbits are one of the biggest prey that we have at the prey pile, so it shouldn't be that hard, surely, right?" I did in fact just seem to say, at that.
As it was that I did in fact have my head tilted at him. Just as soon as it was that I had in fact even said that. As it was that he did in fact seem to go and nod his head back at me.
He then once again turned his head back at the rabbit. As it was that he did in fact go and speak to me quietly. As I then did in fact go and listen as to just what he had to say.
"They are very fast... And they are very strong as well... You have to be careful so they don't fight back... They can badly hurt a cat if you aren't quick with them..." He did in fact just seem to say, all of the sudden.
As it was that he did in fact just seem to lower himself. As it was clear that he was getting ready to catch the rabbit. As it was that I did in fact seem to lower myself as well.
As it was that I didn't want to be the reason he didn't catch it. As I did in fact just seem to go and speak back to TreeTooth softly. As I then did in fact make sure that he heard as to just what I had to say.
"Okay... And what happens after all of that? How do you catch them? You just run at them and outrace them right?" I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too.
As it was that I knew that cats could in fact be very fast. As it was that I felt like we could outrun them. As I then did in fact begin to lick my lips as I thought about catching a rabbit myself, all of the sudden.
As it was that it had in fact just seemed to have been like so. That was when it was that I then did in fact begin to start to see him shake his head. As his eyes were wide still just as he then spoke back to me.
"No... There are rabbit burrows that they like to hide in... If you aren't fast enough they will run inside those... You need to sneak up from their back side and be quiet and careful so that they do not spot you..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at once.
As it was that he did in fact begin to start to go and walk. As it was that he kept himself low just as it was like so. As I then did in fact begin to start to go and walk with him.
As it was that we did in fact seem to sneak side by side. I then did in fact go and speak to him again. As it was that my eyes were wide as it was that he did in fact seem to continue to teach me how to hunt.
"Okay... And I assume that it's like this for everything then? Don't mice hide in nests as well?" I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time as well, at that.
As it was that I had said as to just what I had said to him. He then did in fact go and look back at me. As he did in fact go and also blink his eyes a few times just as soon as it was that it had in fact been like so.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been the case. He then did in fact go and shake his head at me. As it was that I then did in fact go and hear him speak back to me quietly again, all at once.
"No... It is different for all sorts of prey you must catch... Now quiet while I show you how to catch this rabbit... I can only teach you them one at a time..." He did in fact just seem to say to me.
As it was that he had said as to just what he had said. He then did in fact go and nod his head. As it was that he did in fact get my eyes on the rabbit, all of the sudden.
The rabbit didn't seem to have a single clue about either of us. As it was that I did in fact seem to go and squint my eyes at it. Just as it was that I then did in fact go and speak out loud, all of the sudden.
"Okay... I'm watching TreeTooth... I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time as well. As it was that I did in fact go and let out a rough sigh just as soon as I had said that.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been the case. I then did in fact just seem to start to see him move. As this time I seemed to stay still as I didn't want to bother him.
As it was that he did in fact seem to sneak a little bit closer. He then all of the sudden seemed to lift his head up just a little bit. As it was that he then all of the sudden seemed to speak up, all at once.
"And... Now!" He did in fact just seem to say to me, all at once. As just as soon as it was that he had said as to just what it was that he had said.
He then did in fact begin to start to go and run at the rabbit. As it was that I felt like I couldn't help but to go and run behind him. As it was that as old as the tom cat was.
He was still a lot faster than I was, none the less. As it was hard for me to keep up with his speed. As he then all of the sudden did in fact seem to jump at the rabbit who had just seen him coming at the last moment.
The rabbit tried to fight back just as he had said that it would. But the rabbit didn't seem to stand a chance. As I did in fact seem to go and speak out loud just as he had finished off the rabbit, all at once.
"Wow! That was quite amazing! Great catch TreeTooth!" I did in fact just seem to say, all at once. As it was that I was quite a bit impressed and shocked as to just how effortless that had in fact seemed to be for him.
As it was that I had in fact said as to just what I had said to him. He then did in fact go and start to look back at me. As he had a big smile on his face as he did in fact carry the large rabbit on over to me.
As it was that he had in fact just seemed to have done like so. I then did in fact go and start to move, at that. As it was that I did in fact go and hear him speak back to me as well.
"Thanks EchoPaw... It wasn't that great though, I could have done a lot better than that... It worked however..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too.
As I was not all too sure as to the fact that it was. That if he was being too humble with me. Or if he was being serious with just what it was that he had in fact said.
I did in fact just seem to go and blink my eyes a few times either way. As it was that I did in fact go and shake my head a bit to myself. Just as I then did in fact go and speak back to him, all of the sudden.
"Well... It looked nice for me to see!" I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too. As it was that I did in fact do my best to try to stay as calm as I could.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been the case. That was when it was that I then did in fact go and start to turn my head away. As it was that I did in fact begin to simply hear him speak back to me.
"Yeah... I guess it could look that way for your first time... So... Are you ready to go and catch one for yourself?" He did in fact just seem to say, all of the sudden.
As it was that he did in fact seem to brighten himself up. Just as soon as it was that he had said as to just what he had said to me at the end. As it was that I did in fact go and blink my eyes a few times at first.
As it was that I did in fact kind of shiver a little bit myself. Before it was that I then did in fact go and let out a bit of a rough sigh. As it was that I then did in fact speak back to him, at that.
"Yeah... Of course... I can try I suppose..." I did in fact just seem to say, all at once. As I was not all too sure as to whether or not it could in fact be possible for me.
I had seen as to just how fast the tom cat had been. As I was not sure if I could go nearly that fast. As it was that I did in fact go and lower my head to the ground as it was like so.
The tom cat didn't seem to notice the way that I was being. As it was that he did in fact keep a smile on his face just as it was like so. As it was that he then did in fact go and start to speak back to me as well.
"Alright... Go close to this rabbit and sniff it, that way you can get a whiff of its scent... And you can try to catch one for yourself..." He did in fact just seem to say to me, all at once.
As it was that he had said as to just what he had said to me. He then did in fact go and toss the large rabbit on over to me. As it was that I did in fact go and seem to blink my eyes a few times at first, at that.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been like so. I then did in fact also go and nod my head back to him. As it was that I then also spoke back to him just as it was like so.
"Okay... I will try..." I did in fact just seem to say, all at once. As it was that I did in fact close my eyes to try to focus on the scent that I was in fact smelling right now.
I knew that it was a scent that was in fact familiar to me. As it was that I did in fact seem to try to get it tracked into my head. Just as it was that TreeTooth then did in fact go and start to speak back to me.
"Alright... You've got that now? Let's try to see if you can scent a rabbit nearby now..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at once.
As it was that he did in fact go and take the rabbit from me. Just as soon as it was that he had in fact said that. As it was that I did in fact just seem to be quite a bit lost just as soon as it had been like so.
As it was that it had in fact just seemed to have been the case. That was when it was that I then did in fact go and start to nod my head. As it was that I did in fact go and look up at the sky just as I did in fact seem to try to smell everything around me.
It was quite a bit hard for me to do as such a thing like that however. As it was that it felt like there was so much that was going on. As I then quickly seemed to open my eyes just as I spoke back to TreeTooth.
"I... I can't smell one... There are so many scents everywhere around us... I don't think there are any close by... Maybe it's because the seasons are changing and it's getting cold..." I did in fact just seem to say.
As it was that I did in fact shiver just as soon as I had said that. As it was that I did in fact know what it was that I had been told. As to just how it was that the life was like when things began to get cold.
As my mother had told me there was a lot of sickness and hunger. As I did in fact begin to start to get worried that it was coming already. Until it was that I did in fact go and start to hear TreeTooth go and speak back to me in a calm voice, at that.
"There are a couple of rabbits close by... Don't worry though, I know there are a lot of things that you have to learn... This is only your 3rd day out here EchoPaw..." He did in fact just seem to say to me.
As it was that I did in fact just seem to start to hear him say that. I did in fact begin to start to get worried. As to the fact that I knew that RabbitPaw had caught a vole the 2nd day he had become an apprentice.
As it was that it had in fact just seemed to have been the case. I then did in fact start to get a bit worried. Just as it was that I then did in fact go and spend back to him.
"What if I can't catch? And I can't smell things? What if I'm not going to be a good warrior cat TreeTooth? It's all so much, I don't understand any of it..." I did in fact just seem to say to him, all of the sudden.
As it was that I had said as to just what I had said to him. His eyes did in fact just seem to grow wide in surprise. As it was that he did in fact go and blink his eyes a few times as well, all at the exact same time too.
Just as soon as it was that he had done as such a thing like that. That was when he then let out a bit of a rough sigh back to me. As I also began to hear him speak back to me as well.
"Don't say that EchoPaw... You will be a great warrior... I will make sure of it... Yes it is a lot to take in... That is why I will be training you over the next 9 moons..." He did in fact just seem to say to me.
Just as soon as it was that he had in fact said that to me. He then did in fact just seem to also go and smile back at me. As it was that it did in fact seem to calm me down just a little bit.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been the case. That was when it was that I did in fact just seem to calm myself down. As I did in fact go and speak back to him, just as it was that I had done before.
"Okay TreeTooth... You are right... I will go for the rabbit... I will try my best..."
