Chapter 28: What Are You Looking For? (EchoPaws PoV)

I stood there, as I tried to be strong for TreeTooth. As I looked at the other apprentices that were around me. As I looked as if I was nothing compared to all of them.
I had joined them in training over the last few days. And I had not gotten close at all to standing a chance against them. As I was simply just too small to be able to beat them.
I felt like I was never going to get any bigger than I was now. As it felt like even my sister was bigger than me at this point. As I then closed my eyes and spoke to myself quietly just as it was like so.
"I am useless... How can I ever live up to my father's legacy? How can I ever be a leader like him?" I did in fact just seem to say to myself, all at the exact same time too.
As I kept my eyes closed just as soon as I had said that. As things seemed to feel so cold, all at once. Just as it was that I then did in fact hear TreeTooth go and speak to me, at that.
"You aren't useless EchoPaw... You are a good hunter, and you are getting better with fighting... Don't compare yourself to your father, your father has done a lot to get to this point, and you still have a lot left to live for..." He did in fact just seem to say.
As he then also squinted his eyes at me as he had said that. As I did in fact go and blink my eyes a few times at first. As I did in fact do my best to try to stay calm as well.
Just as soon as it was that I had done as such a thing like that. I then did in fact go and speak back to TreeTooth. As I then did in fact go and make sure he heard what I had to say.
"But how can I be like my father? How can I do the things he has done to get to the point where he is at now?" I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been like so. That was when it was that he then looked away. As he did in fact go and let out a rough sigh as he I had said that.
I knew that my father had done so many things already. As he was by no means an old cat what so ever. As I did in fact go and shake my head just as TreeTooth spoke back to me.
"Obviously you won't do the things that he has done, because he has already done those things for you... But when your time comes to shine you will know..." He did in fact just seem to say to me.
He then did in fact smile just as soon as he had said that. As he also then did in fact nod his head back to me. As it did in fact make me feel a lot better as he had done like so.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been the case. I then did in fact go and smile back to my mentor. As I did in fact also go and speak back to him as well.
"Thank you TreeTooth... I will try my best to succeed in everything that comes my way... I'm sorry for being such a downer all the time..." I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too.
Just as soon as it was that I had said as to just what I had said. That was when it was that I then did in fact go and see he looked hurt. As I was not all too sure as to just why it was like so.
As he did in fact seem to lower his head to the ground. That was when he then did in fact go and speak back to me. As I then did in fact go and listen as to just what he had to say, at that.
"It's okay EchoPaw... The cats you compare yourself to are much stronger and older than you... Just know you will be there someday yourself... You remind me of my sister..." He did in fact just seem to say.
As he did in fact seem to be a bit sad just as it was like so. As he did in fact also go and close his eyes. Just as soon as it was that he had said as to just what he had said.
My eyes did in fact seem to grow wide just as it was like so. As I did in fact also go and blink my eyes a few times. Just as it was that I also then began to speak back to him.
"Your sister? You have a sister?! Where is she at? Is she with the other clans?" I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too.
As I did in fact go and look at the early morning horizon. As I did in fact go and look at to where my mother had gone. To find where the other clans had in fact been at.
As it was that it had in fact just seemed to have been like so. I then did in fact go and hear TreeTooth respond right back to me. As he still seemed to be sad just as he did that.
"My sister has been gone a long time ago... She died in a fight against some bad cats..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at once.
He did in fact wince just as soon as he had said that. As I saw that he did in fact also seem to look sick. As it was clear that it wasn't a memory that he wanted to think back on.
I felt like I should change the subject on that all of the sudden. As I did in fact go and blink my eyes a few times myself, all at once. Just as it was that I then did in fact also go and speak back to him too.
"Oh... I'm sorry about that... What do you mean I remind you of her..." I did in fact just seem to say. As my eyes were wide as I kept my head tilted at him too, at that.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been like so. That was when it was that I then turned my head away. As it was that I did in fact go and look back at the same place as before.
As I just seemed to stand there and stare for a bit longer. As I watched as TreeTooth did the same as me. I then eventually heard him go and speak back to me softly.
"You just doubt yourself a lot... She used to do the same thing... Until... Well..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too.
As it was that he did in fact just seem to say what he had said. He then did in fact all of the sudden stop himself. As he did in fact also go and shiver as well, at that.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact been like so. I then did in fact go and start to shake my head. As I then did in fact go and speak back to him, all of the sudden.
"Well... If you don't want to talk about it I understand... There are some things my mother won't tell me... Let's just finish what we were doing here..." I did in fact just seem to say.
As it was that I did in fact go and nod to TreeTooth. Just as soon as it was that I had in fact said that. As to the fact that we were on a border patrol right now, at that.
We had just spotted some Thunderclan cats patrolling their border. As we didn't want to get close to them. As I knew that there was no reason to start a conflict, at that.
As it was that it had in fact just seemed to have been like so. That was when it was that I did in fact see TreeTooth nod, all at once. As he then squinted up his nose just as he also began to speak back to me too.
"The smell of these ThunderClan cats are so nasty... Let's make it quick..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time too.
Just as soon as it was that he had said as to just what he had said. I then did in fact go and see him get close to the river. As it was that I did in fact begin to start to do the same thing as he did, all at once.
Just as soon as it was that we did in fact go and get close to the river. I then did in fact also just seem to feel sick. As I did in fact go and speak out loud, all at once.
"Yuck... No kidding... What did those cats step in?" I did in fact just seem to say, all at once. As it was that I did in fact just seem to look away as I did in fact spray my own scent on the edge, all at once.
As it was that it had in fact just seemed to have thought on that. I then did in fact hear TreeTooth chuckle a bit. As he then did in fact go and start to speak back to me, all at once.
"Who knows... It almost smells like a skunk to be honest... Maybe it was..." He did in fact just seem to say to me, all at the exact same time too.
His eyes did in fact just seem to grow wide as he had said that. As I knew that he was in fact joking with what he had said. But a part of me wondered if that was why it did in fact smell so bad, all at once.
I did my best to try to keep myself as calm as I felt like I could. As we did in fact seem to continue to head down the river. As I did in fact go and spend to him just as I continued to spray my scent, at that.
"So... What are the plans after this, and after we get back to camp?" I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time as well. As it was that I did in fact go and blink my eyes a few times all of the sudden.
Just as soon as it was that I had said as to just what I had said to him. I then did in fact go and seem to see him look right at me. As his eyes did in fact seem to grow wide just as soon as it had been like so.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been the case. I then did in fact go and start to look away. As it was that I did in fact go and start to hear him speak back to me.
"Well... We will go back to camp... And see if OwlThroat needs anything from us if he is still there... If not, you are welcome to have a day for yourself..." He did in fact just seem to say, all of the sudden.
As it was that he had said as to just what he had said. That was when it was that he then did in fact seem to smile, all at once. As it was clear that he knew that it would brighten my mood, all at once.
Just as soon as it was that it had in fact just been the case. That was when it was that I then did in fact go and nod my head. As it was that I did in fact go and speak back to him as I kept a smile on my face, at that.
"Yay! Thank you TreeTooth! You know? You aren't half bad!" I did in fact just seem to say, all at the exact same time as well.
As I did in fact go and nudge up against my mentor as I had said that. As I did in fact know that he often brought up. As to the fact that he felt like he was an outsider to the clan.
I kind of felt like it wasn't the case what so ever, at that. As I knew that he had been here since I had been born. As I did in fact go and shake my head a bit to myself, at that.
However, I also knew I had heard some cats say some things about him. As I knew that he often didn't live the way that we did. As I did in fact do my best to get my mind off of that just as I then heard him speak back to me.
"Well... I think we are good with leaving our scent for ThunderClan... They can't make an excuse not to smell our scent around the river... Let's go on and head back home..." He did in fact just seem to say, all at once.
Just as soon as it was that he had said as to just what he had said. My eyes did in fact just seem to grow wide. As it was that I then did in fact go and nod back to him as I also spoke back to him, all of the sudden.
"Alright! I'm coming!" I did in fact just seem to say. As I did in fact seem to see that he was picking up pace. As it was that it seemed like he wanted to get back to the camp.
As it was that it had in fact just been the case. I then did in fact just seem to walk in stride with him. As I did in fact feel good as the wind blew across my face, at that.
