Tori Vega and Jade West had been assigned as college dormmates at Hollywood Arts. The room was small, but the tension between them was anything but. Tori, with her sunny disposition and undeniable talent, clashed with Jade's brooding demeanor and sharp wit.
One evening, after a particularly grueling day of classes, Tori sat cross-legged on her bed, strumming her guitar. Jade, perched on her own bed, glared at Tori as if the guitar strings were personally offending her.
"Must you play that thing every night?" Jade snapped.
Tori grinned. "It's relaxing. Besides, I thought you liked my singing."
Jade scoffed. "Your singing is tolerable. But your constant optimism? Not so much."
Tori raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong with optimism?"
"Everything," Jade retorted. "Life isn't all rainbows and unicorns, Vega."
Tori leaned back, studying Jade. "You know, you're like a mysterious puzzle. I can't figure you out."
Jade rolled her eyes. "Don't bother. You won't like what you find."
But Tori was undeterred. She decided to break the ice. "So, Jade, what's your favorite color?"
Jade blinked, clearly caught off guard. "Why do you care?"
"Because roommates should know each other," Tori said. "It's like a bonding thing."
Jade huffed. "Fine. Black. Obviously."
Tori grinned. "Mine's purple. And I love singing in the shower. What about you?"
Jade's expression softened ever so slightly. "I write poetry. But don't tell anyone."
Tori's eyes sparkled. "That's amazing! You should share some with me."
Jade scowled. "Why would I do that?"
"Because," Tori said, "we're roommates. And maybe we can find some common ground."
Jade hesitated, then muttered, "Fine. But only because I'm bored."
And so, late at night, they sat on the floor, sharing secrets. Tori sang snippets of her favorite songs, and Jade recited haunting lines from her poems. Their laughter echoed through the room, and for a moment, the tension dissolved.
As weeks passed, Tori discovered that Jade loved horror movies and secretly adored fluffy kittens. Jade learned that Tori's favorite snack was chocolate-covered strawberries and that she had a hidden talent for impersonating celebrities.
One evening, Tori caught Jade staring at her guitar. "Want to learn?" she asked.
Jade scoffed. "I don't do instruments."
But Tori persisted. She taught Jade a few chords, and soon they were playing duets—Tori's sweet voice blending with Jade's husky one. Their room became a sanctuary of music, laughter, and whispered confessions.
One night, as they sat on their beds, Tori said, "You know, Jade, we're not so different."
Jade raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really?"
"Yeah," Tori said. "We both have our scars, our fears. But maybe we can heal each other."
Jade didn't respond, but her eyes softened. And in that quiet moment, Tori realized that their roommate rivalry had transformed into something more—a fragile friendship that defied expectations.
