april 25, 2022
her lungs filled with air, and she opened her eyes. it was night, and her room was empty. machines beeped all around to make sure she was breathing. she noticed that she was in the icu, and that no one else was here.
she wondered how many days she was out, and to her defense she felt for her right leg, still wasn't there. she was still an amputee. great. she felt around for her phone, and she found it. someone must have put it on the bed, knowing that she would want it.
she picked it up and the screen hurt her eyes for a bit, but then she saw the date. it was april 25. only five days. she was supposed to get her license tomorrow, screw that.
she had messages from so many people, but the one that stuck out was from benson. it was a text from three days ago. she decided to leave it, and focus on getting better first before answering anything else.
she had to pee, tmi. she pressed the nurse button and a nurse showed up, thinking she was still out and pressed the button on accident.
walking in, and looking into the bed, the nurse was wide eyed. "do you know how i can pee?" aviana was rather embarrassed by the question.
"you can just let it out, by the diaper you have on." the nurse sweetly told her. "it feels unsanitary though." she told her.
"hmm, the doctor did say that we can start getting you to move, once you wake up."
"do i need multiple people to help with that?" "yes, hold on." she paged the doctor, and some other people came in with her.
"she would like to start physical therapy." the nurse whispered to the doctor. the doctor nodded and turned towards aviana. "okay, laura, go around, help the back. justin, go back there. daya, you can help with this side. and toby you can help on this side." it seemed like the doctor couldn't touch me or something.
all four nurses went on the three and helped me up. considering i was gone for like five days, it wasn't that hard. but i had one leg, so who was i kidding.
i balanced my myself out, since my left leg was dominant. all four helped me to the bathroom, and then the girls took me inside, and helped me out. i was like embarrassed to be honest.
after peeing, they wanted to take me to the physical therapy room. i got a walker and i looked old, but they said it wasn't weird because i was recovering. so i hobbled around the hospital to the therapy room.
inside, was stairs, bars, all sorts of stuff to help me get my strength back. a therapist came out, and walked over to us. "good morning." she said. "morning." one of the nurses replied.
"who do we have here?" "aviana clifford, amputee, right leg, here for first day of therapy." the nurse told her back.
"i'm sure jason and i can handle her. i got her from here, thank you two." the nurses left and i was left alone with a walker and the physical therapist.
"let's get you over to the chair." she was right on me, i hopped around. it was harder than it looked. i got settled down in the chair and she sat across from me.
"hello aviana, i'm jacy, and my partner jason should be around, he's helping someone else right now."
"hi. uhh could you call me avi, please?"
"of course, we want you to be comfortable here." she smiled at me. i guess i needed to be smiled at, cause i did it right back.
"let's get this leg to start working again. let's get the strength up." she looked to me for confirmation if she could touch my leg. i gave her the okay.

she was back in the hospital bed, leg feeling much better. she was actually in a good mood. usually she was full of despair, but she actually had confidence that she could do it. it was honestly the therapy part for her.
now, it was 8:30 pm and she grabbed her phone, from when she set it down earlier. benson's text still there, from where it was this morning. she opened it and it wasn't a long message at all, just a little meticulous.
she read through it and responded. she just lit up when he texted back. it made her happy, made her smile, that someone was actually talking to her.
she texted benson up until someone knocked on her door. the door quietly opened and shut itself. she knew those footsteps, it was calum. the weird uncle.
"hey avi, i see you're already up. how long?"
"this morning, i think, i don't quite remember."
"that's alright, how've you been?"
"i've been asleep for five days, how worse can it get?"
"well, it seems like you're happy. have you been practicing sitting up?"
"yeah, had my first physical therapy session. it was awesome to get out of this bed for like two hours."
"that's awesome!"
"i know, thank you!" she smiled at him.
