During that week, I seized every opportunity to further my plan. Whenever I found myself alone, even for a brief moment, I would check for hidden microphones or cameras, scouring every nook and cranny of my surroundings.
Finally, one afternoon, I was granted a rare reprieve – time in the garden, accompanied by Venessa and Rosey. As soon as we were out of earshot, I pulled them aside, quickly retrieving my phone and checking for any new messages from Jasmine.
"Is it safe to talk?" I whispered, scanning our surroundings warily.
Venessa nodded, her expression grave. "We checked. No bugs or cameras in this area."
Relief washed over me. I opened Jasmine's latest message - she managed to take of the investigator's office and the team he was assembling to help us.
"Look at this," I said, showing them the incriminating texts. "Jasmine is making progress."
Rosey's eyes widened as she studied the texts. "That's the guy she's working with, right? The young investigator?"
I nodded. "And it looks like he's got quite a team put together already. The more help, the better our chances."
We pored over the images, scrutinizing every detail, looking for any clues or advantages we could glean.
After a moment, Rosey nudged me.
"You should send those office photos I took," she urged in a hushed tone. "The more evidence we can provide, the stronger our case will be."
Nodding in agreement, I quickly attached the incriminating photos of the father's office and typed out a message summarizing the details before hitting send to Jasmine.
With each piece of intel we gathered, our hopes grew stronger. I could feel the momentum building, the light at the end of the tunnel burning brighter and brighter.
Just as I was about to attach the photos, a twig snapped behind us, and we whirled around to see Juliun standing there, his eyes narrowed with suspicion.
"What's going on here?" he demanded, his gaze flickering between the three of us.
In a split second, I made a decision. Slipping my phone into my pocket, I plastered on a bright smile and stepped forward.
"Juliun! We were just admiring the garden," I gushed, gesturing to the vibrant blooms around us. "Isn't it just breathtaking?"
His eyes narrowed further, but I pressed on, laying it on thick.
"Rosey and Venessa were telling me all about the different flowers and their meanings. Did you know that roses symbolize love and passion?" I batted my eyelashes at him, feigning innocence.
Juliun's expression softened ever so slightly, and I knew I had him hooked.
"Is that so?" he murmured, his gaze sweeping over the rose bushes.
I nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, yes! And those lilies over there represent purity and innocence. Isn't it just fascinating?"
Rosey and Venessa caught on quickly, nodding along with my fabricated story.
"We were just discussing how we could incorporate some of these beautiful blooms into the arrangements for the upcoming gala," Venessa chimed in smoothly.
Juliun's brow furrowed as he considered her words. "The gala? But that's not for months."
I waved a dismissive hand. "Oh, you know how these things go. Planning needs to start well in advance if we want everything to be perfect."
A slow smile spread across his face, and he nodded in agreement. "Of course, of course. Carry on, then. But don't let me interrupt your...flower lessons."
With a final lingering glance in my direction, he turned and strode away, leaving us alone once more.
As soon as he was out of earshot, we all exhaled a collective sigh of relief.
"Nice save," Rosey whispered, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and admiration.
I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant despite the way my heart was still pounding in my chest. "Just playing the part."
Quickly, I retrieved my phone and attached the incriminating photos, sending them off to Jasmine before pocketing the device once more.
"That was too close," Venessa murmured, her expression grim. "We need to be more careful."
I nodded in agreement, my mind already whirring with contingency plans. We had come too far, risked too much to let our guard down now.
