Dinner time

We found Mom in the kitchen.
Both Emily and I tried to stop him, but Dad shoved his way forwards and planted both his hands on the counter. "Rosie." He said, his voice going dangerously low.
Mom turned around. "Oh hey! Your back!" She tried to hug him, but he shoved her away. "Why? Why would you turn on me of all people?"
Mom rolled her eyes and trapped him in a hug against his will. "Alastor, I would have thought that you of all people would know that I am not one to betray anyone. You should also know that Emily would have never offered to heal you if I had been standing over her with a spear, I had to leave. I also had to make an excuse to leave, one Emily would believe. So I thought, this is Hell darling! In her eyes I am full capable of betraying you."
She kissed his cheek. "None of it was real dear."
Dad just stood there pretty much dumbfounded.
And so did I.
And Emily who stood in the door.
Rosie scowled. "What? I can be cool to sometimes."
Dad smiled and grabbed her by the chin, kissing her.
When he pulled back, he said, "And this my darling, is why I married you."
And he passed her to stand over the bubbling pot of yumminess, taking over cooking.
Mom stood there for a second with a dreamy smile on her face, before turning around and joining him by the stove, talking in whispers and both smiling.
It was at times like this that I was forgotten.
I didn't mind too much, but sometimes they would talk... for hours.
Like, how?!
I ignored them and did what I normally did at these times, set the table.
I was almost done when I saw Emily in the doorway.
Oh yeah, she was still here.
Yeah I had forgotten about her.
Oops.
I straightened. "Oh, your still here."
Emily nodded. "Yep."
Dad turned around with a smile. "Oh yes Emily dear, when must you go?"
Emily rubbed her arm. "Well, the exorcists will be here for another day, so not anytime soon I guess."
"Well then," he said gesturing to the table. "would you give us the honor of hosting a Seraphim?"
Emily's eyes widened. "Oh! I would, but I don't want to intrude on family."
Dad waved this off. "Oh nonsense! Sit down, sit down!"
The seraphim rubbed her arm. "Okay."
I smiled and patted the seat next to mine.
She sat down next to me and across from Mom and Dad.
Soon Dad brought over the pot of stuffed artichoke soup.
I leaned over it and breathed in the heavenly smell.

Emily did the same and breathed in the steam

Emily did the same and breathed in the steam.  "Wow."
She sat back down and licked her lips. "I don't mean to be rude, but uh, how much am I allowed to have?"
Dad gave the most genuine laugh he had all day. "As much as you can eat my dear."
Mom came over with a pitcher of water and a bottle of wine.
I immediately grabbed both and filled half my glass with wine and the other half with water.
When I noticed Emily staring, I stopped. "What?"
Emily grabbed the bottle out of my hands, pouring herself  half a glass "Oh I just think it's cool that your parents started you out young, it gets rid of the need to try alcohol later."
She scowled and just topped it off. "It get's rid of addictions."
I nodded, watching her take a sip of her wine. "So, isn't drinking sinful?"
Emily almost spit her drink out. "NO! Getting drunk is sinful!"
I leaned back in my chair. "OHHHHHHH! That makes so much more sense."
She nodded.
Dad waved a hand in our direction. "Hello? We are at dinner, not tea! Please hand me your bowls."
I did and Emily followed suite.
Alastor set the steaming bowl in front of the seraphim. "There you are."
Emily very quietly sat back while everyone else was serving them self's.
She finally looked up at Mom and Dad, who both nodded.
Emily very politely took a spoon full of her soup and sipped it.
But the second it touched her lips, her eyes went wide. "Oh Wow..." she breathed.
Dad tilted his head. "Do you like it?"
He got his answer when she downed the rest in less than a minute.
Mom blinked. "Wow, guess that's a yes."
Emily nodded eagerly and looked at Dad with almost pleading eyes.
He laughed, rolling his eyes and grabbed her bowl, refilling it.
The seraphim took it back thankfully. "This is heavenly, what's even in it?"
Dad shrugged, waving a hand. "Oh a little bit here and a little bit there, Nothing much, but you are also heavenly so you should be getting back to that land in the sky."
Emily put down her spoon. "Well... I don't know, I belong there, and I have a job to do, but now I know who Sera really is! it's so hard, I don't know what to do! I know what she's doing is wrong! But how do I- oh I don't know."
Her wings drooped. "I feel powerless."
Dad stood up abruptly. "You are not powerless, You a-" He stopped and gave Mom a meaningful look.
She nodded and grabbed me by the arm dragging me out of the kitchen.

                                                         ~

Alastors Pov
I waited until Lily and Rosie had left before continuing.
"Emily you are not powerless, being powerless is... not a good feeling, I should know."
She looked away. "But what can I do? Little old me? I am powerless."
I shook my head. "Being powerless, is lonely, it hurts you in ways you didn't know you could be hurt, it is misery and pain."
I looked her in the eyes. "It breaks you Emily."
I smiled. "But your not broken!" I used a hand to brush a piece of hair out of her eyes. "You are perfectly put together!"
  "But your not." she mumbled.
Being punched in the gut was not comfortable, but this? This hurt. So. Much. More.
I looked down, my smile everlasting. "Yes, I suppose I'm not."
The girl squeezed my hands. "But I can help you!"
Shaking my head, I said, "How, my dear, do you think your going to help me, if you don't think you can help yourself."
Emily sat back and thought about this, and finally answered.
"I can help you because I am a seraphim."
I rested my chin on the back of my hand. "Okay, but do you know what else a seraphim can do?"
Emily sighed and leaned back. "Let me guess, fix heaven and stand up to Sera?"
I smiled and nodded. "Indeed."
The girl threw her hands in the air. "But how am I going to do that!? I can't do anything! My word means nothing because if I did say anything, I would fall!"
She hid her face in her arms on the table. "I don't want to fall."
A small piece of my heart broke for the poor girl, which was more than I wanted admit.
I sighed and grabbed her chin, making her look at me. "Emily my dear, just think about it, Sera did all those despicable things, and hasn't fallen yet, so why would you if your doing nothing to harm anyone while she's killing millions?"
The girls eyes went wide. "I- wow I never thought about it like that!"
I let her go and leaned back in my chair.
She planted her hands on the table. "Yeah! If she hasn't fallen yet, then why would I? Maybe I'm not so powerless."
She stood up and paced in a small circle on my kitchen floor, mumbling to herself.
Suddenly she turned. "I can now save you too!"
I sighed. "My dear, I already told y-"
"Then sell your soul to me." The girl winced and looked at the ceiling, looking like she wished that she could take her words back.
I just sat there staring at her.
Sell my... wait what?!
Soul?
I opened my mouth, but I had seemed to have lost the ability to speak.
Finally I stood up, my ears twitching in annoyance. "What?"
The seraphim waved her hands back and forth quickly. "No wait I didn't mea-"
I cut her off. "Sell you my soul? So that I can be on, not one, but TWO leashes?!"
She took a step back. "No I-"
Slamming my hands into the table, I said, "What do you think, gives you the right to come here, be my guest, and then try and get me to sell you my soul?!"
The poor girl looked terrified as she put her arms up like a shield. "NO! It doesn't give me any right! I wasn't- I didn't mean that! I was trying to tell you that when you sell your soul to someone they own you, but if you sell it to a second one, the first loses control! I wasn't trying anything! I don't even want your soul! It just came out wrong!"
She stood there shaking.
This... was new information.
I sat back down. "What?" I whispered.
Emily slowly lowered her arms. "Yeah, u-um, I just wanted you to know."
My brain was going a million miles an hour.
Could I...?
Would I be able to...?
I looked back at Emily who, had stopped shaking, but was still standing on the other side of the room.
I sighed. "I'm sorry dear, I... thank you, I am terribly sorry about frightening you, and misunderstanding."
The seraphim laughed a little. "Oh no, um, it was my fault."
Shaking my head I said, "I am still sorry."
Surprisingly, she came back and sat down. "No, it's fine, I was just startle by the mood change."
I smiled. "Well..."
Emily nodded. "Yeah..."
I stood up. "Now that that's dealt with, we should eat this soup before it grows cold!"
The girl blushed. "Oh yes sorry for making your family leave."
I waved my hands. "Nonsense! It was my idea in the first place."
The seraphim nodded and settled into her chair, a little more comfortable than before.

                                                        ~
When we were finally let back in, Emily looked way better than when we had left.
We all sat down and continued the night as if nothing had happened.
This sometimes happened.
Dad would pull Mom into a room and they would talk for ages.
Of course without me.
Rude.
There was definitely something going on in this house that I didn't know about,
but I
would
find
out.

Hey guys!
So sorry for the wait!
Thank you for being patient with me, and thank you for the support, please continue!
(Has anyone drawn the flour scene yet?)
