Ruby: "Hey, watch it!"
Ruby's admonition sliced through the chaos as she glimpsed another Beowolf lunging towards her. With reflexes honed by countless battles, she swung her scythe in a deadly arc, cleaving the creature mid-leap, its torso severed from its waist. Weiss, still seething from Ruby's earlier interference, couldn't contain her ire.
Weiss: "Excuse me! You attacked out of turn! I could have been killed!"
Her frustration was palpable, even as she skewered two Grimm through the chest, activating a dust bullet within her rapier to unleash a torrential blast of ice magic. The Grimm, now lifeless statues, shattered into a shower of glimmering fragments. Ruby, undeterred, dispatched another Grimm, her eyes alight with a crimson fervor.
Ruby: "You'll have to try a lot harder than that."
Back to back, the duo formed a bulwark against the encroaching Grimm. The Beowolves' whines and growls were a grim chorus to the battle. As Ruby reloaded her scythe, a flaming tree crashed nearby, adding to the pandemonium. The Voracity, ever taunting, spoke with a voice of stolen echoes. The desperate mimicry of long dead voices.
Voracity: "G̶l̷o̵r̷y̶ ̵f̴o̶r̶g̸o̶t̸t̷e̸n̷,̶ ̴o̴u̸r̸ ̸f̴e̶a̷s̴t̴ ̵r̷e̸m̵a̶i̶n̸s̴ ̷-̴ ̸C̶o̴n̶s̴u̷m̴e̷ ̷t̷h̶e̶ ̸f̸a̷l̷l̵e̸n̶!̷"
The twisted voices, a Grimm tactic to disorient and dismay, caused Weiss' heart to race with panic. Victory was far from certain. Ruby, however, felt an odd sense of gratitude, her resolve mirroring Hadryn's deep-seated hatred for the Grimm.
Weiss: "We have to go!"
Her warning was urgent, but Ruby was already charging at the Voracity. Weiss' rapier pierced her cloak, anchoring her in place. A burning tree cracked and fell, scattering the Grimm and igniting the underbrush. Seizing the moment, Weiss grabbed Ruby, and they fled from the inferno.
The Voracity, clutching its mask, roared in frustration as it lost its quarry to the flames. A safe distance away, Weiss doubled over, gasping for air, while Ruby glanced back at the smoldering battlefield, scythe gripped tightly in vexation.
Ruby: "What was that?! That should've been easy!"
Weiss' response was a mix of anger and exasperation.
Weiss: "Well, perhaps if you had exercised even the slightest amount of caution with the Voracity, I wouldn't have set the forest on fire!"
Ruby's confusion was evident, her irritation giving way to a demand for clarification.
Ruby: "What's that supposed to mean?"
Weiss' retort was sharp, her words laced with disbelief.
Weiss: "I'm just surprised someone who talks so much would communicate so little during an encounter!"
Ruby's pride was wounded, her reply tinged with sarcasm.
Ruby: "Well, I'm sorry you need my help to win a fight. I'm just fine on my own!"
Weiss' comeback was biting, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Weiss: "Well, congratulations on being the strongest child to sneak your way into Beacon. Bravo!"
With those harsh words, Weiss turned away, her frustration boiling over. She would not waste her time with her. She took a step forward away from the earlier encounter with the Voracity, Her Hair swayed in the wind. The verdant Emerald forest held its silent breath.
Weiss knew. Ruby was inexperienced, she did not know what she knew.
And to Weiss... that was more than enough validation to she was better.
CLASH
A dust cloud of dirt and roots contaminated the once crispy air, debris of rock and flora were recklessly tossed about. Weiss' lungs filled with dust. and she coughed and spun around to see what had happened. Ruby stood. lumbering over herself, Clutching Crescent Rose in her hands.
The blade buried beneath the stone. and with the strength taught by Hadryn - She lifted her scythe from the rubble.
Weiss looked around worried. unsure of how to respond, It seems
Ruby, overcome with agitation, unfolded Crescent Rose and brought it crashing down, carving a deep crevasse into the earth and uprooting trees. The ground trembled, and Weiss spun around, stunned by the upheaval. Ruby refolded her scythe and strode past Weiss, the falling trees thundering in her wake. Weiss sighed, a mix of resignation and concern, and followed after Ruby, unaware of the large dark feather that settled upon a fallen trunk, a silent witness to their tumultuous partnership.
