Y/N's POV:

My eyes finally adjusted to the dark. We had been teleported to a cave. It was humid and damp and quite frankly eerie.

"I- is this were the second wave is set to start?" I whispered. Naofumi merely responded with a nod.

"But where are the other heroes?" Raph queried. Her question went unanswered as the three of us began venturing further into the cave. I gripped the hem of Naofumi's shirt. I had always been scared of the dark. It reminded me of the closet that I had been confined in. Dark, quiet and small.

"It's okay Y/N, everything will be fine", Naofumi attempted to comfort me, but I could sense he was just as tense as I was.

"It's too quiet", Raph spoke out loud. Although her statement received no acknowldgement, we all knew she was right. It was far too quiet. Something was brewing and it was only a matter of time until we found out what that was.

We approached a cavern. Four separate tunnels stood before us.

"Which one should we take?" Raph asked, walking closer towards them.

"Be careful Raph", I urged. Ever since entering the cave, I was on high alert. Being in a situation like this terrified me. The unknown terrified me.

Naofumi could sense my apprehension, as he followed Raphtalia towards the first tunnel.

"Relax Y/N, you're safe". He gripped my hand. "I won't let go".

The three of us entered the first tunnel. We travelled through the narrow passages for what felt like hours.

"There's light", Raphtalia gasped, pointing ahead of her. She was right. In the near distance, a small sphere of light grew closer as we continued shuffling our way through the tunnel.

Upon entering the large cavern, I tripped back and let out a blood- curdling scream. Scurrying back, tears flowed freely from my widened eyes.

"F- fumi!" I yelped, pointing a shaky finger towards the scene before me.

Naofumi's POV:

Y/N's piercing scream echoed through the spacious cavern.

"Holy shit", I breathed, taking in the scene we had stumbled upon.

Scattered sporadically over the rocky floor of the cavern were countless bodies. The bodies of our once comrades.

I recognised the frail body of Rishia surrounded in a pool of blood, her hair mattered with the dry substance. Motoyasu, Ren and Itsuki lay together, each with a series of bloody gashes covering their motionless bodies.

"What the fuck happened here?" I whispered to no one but myself.

My attention was drawn to a pale blue dragon that loomed over the corpses.

"Another dragon?" Raphtalia huffed angrily. "Are we gonna take it down or what?"

I hesitated. The sight of our fallen comrades sent a wave of fear throughout my body. Although the four of us heroes butted heads quite often, they were still human beings and didn't deserve this fate.

'Are we gonna turn out like this?'

I glanced from Raph to Y/N.

'Will I be able to protect them?'

"Naofumi, did you hear me?"

"Huh?" I was snapped from the unsavoury thoughts.

Shaking her head, Raphtalia leapt forward. "Fine, I'll take care of this asshole". "Naofumi, you protect Y/N".
