Minho and Thomas led the way at the front, guiding the gladers through the maze. Aria slowly jogged at the back of the group, keeping Newt company since he was significantly slower due to his limp.
"Is it a Griever?" Chuck asked.
Thomas peered down the long corridor, a Griever standing at the other end. "Yeah." He nodded nodded.
"Shit." Chuck mumbled. Earning a disapproving glare from the girl who cared for him.
"You take this, Chuck. Stay behind us." Minho said protectively. Ariella's stomach was over flowing with butterflies as she saw how good he was with kids.
"It's okay, stick with me. I'm not letting you leave my side." Ella assured Chuck, placing her hand on his shoulder.
"Once we're through, it'll activate and the door will open. All right, we stay close, we stick together, we get through this. We get out now, or we die trying." Thomas voice didn't falter once as the encouraging words spilled from his mouth.
"You ruined your own pep talk." Ella muttered to herself, although Chuck heard and laughed at the blonde.
"Ready?" Thomas asked. Everyone took out their weapons preparing for the fight. "Let's go!" Thomas shouted. Everyone yelled as they charged at the griever, digging their weapons into the creature. Ella's grip tightened on her spear, slamming it into the beast's eyes making a horrible squelching sound.
"That's gross." she exclaimed, pulling the weapon back out.
"The key!" She heard Chuck yell watching as he ran to the edge.
"Chuck! Watch the edge!" Ella panicked, going after the boy. The runner grabbed hold of Chucks legs as half his body hung over the edge.
"Oh no!" He exclaimed, seeing two grievers climbing up the wall. "Pull me up, pull me up!"
"I got you." Ariella assured him as she pulled him up.
"Thomas, Thomas." Chuck yelled as him and Ariella ran away from the two grievers. The two made their way to the wall, using the device to open it up while the boy continued to fight against the grievers.
"Teresa, go with them." Thomas ordered her, seeing as she was just getting in the way rather than doing much help.
"Thomas! There's a code! Eight digits!" Teresa shouted at the boy.
"Eight sections of the Maze." Thomas realised. "Minho, Aria. What's the sequence to the sections of the Maze?"
"Seven, one, five, two, uh six, four..." Minho didn't get to finish as a Griever landed on top of him.
"Minho!" Ella shrieked, seeing the love of her life trapped under the creature.
"Aria, think what's the code?!" Teresa urged as the boys continued to hold off the Grieves.
